What's new

First and (probale) last shower shave

So it seems the mirror is a must, haha. I might buy a 10 dollar fogless mirror from Amazon and give it another shot. It just really didn't go well the first time. The appeal of not getting water on the counter and being able to rinse with cool water right after shaving is quite appealing still. If it still doesn't work for me, it's only a 10 dollar loss :biggrin1:
Good move save your blood and donate a pint to the Red Cross instead.

Before I grew out my beard last summer I always shaved in the shower. I didn't have a shower mirror so just did it by feel and intuition. No mess at the sink, everything washed down the drain, and shaves were consistently PDG.

I'm one of those that has never used a mirror in the shower. I never really thought about it though . In a way I think it might help you be a better shaver. Because its all by feel and it keeps you in tune and paying attention to what your hand is doing as well as the blade.

I shave in the shower all the time and love it. I have been doing it for a month and half. I love the moisture that softens my beard and my lather never dries. I find that I get less irritation this way. Love it and less of a mess for SWMBO to clean up.

I shave in the shower as well. Have for years and years, at least 15. A mirror is an absolute must, and so is water that is not extremely hot. I've had all types of mirrors over the years. Cheap mirrors, expensive guaranteed no fog mirrors and everything in between. Problem is, they all eventually fog. The only one's that didn't are the kind that hook behind your shower head and water flows thru the mirror and then out your shower head...keeps the glass from fogging because it's the same temp as the air in the shower. Problem is, most of them are smaller and you are facing the water stream which always meant, for me, that it was hard to keep it from washing the shave cream off my neck so I could get close enough to see.

Someone else mentioned rubbing a bit of soap or shampoo on the mirror, and that does take care of the problem. I just rub it on a bit and rinse some, but not all of it off. i can see just fine and it keeps it from fogging. Mirrors now are a bit bigger than they were years ago. I bought one of those Best Grip or OXO Grip, or whatever they're called, mirrors from Target. More than big enough for me and the suction cup locks on the tile/marble/plastic shower liner and doesn't let go. Even has a razor holder.

I like the idea of standing at the sink, having all my stuff out on the counter and having more room to sit stuff, but my back simply can't take even the slight bending over necessary to lean over the counter to get as close as I like to the mirror, plus slightly bending to constantly rinse the razor. I did it for the first 3 months I DE shaved, but my back killed me the whole time. I had to go back to the shower or get surgery.

Edit....Plus I get consistently better shaves in the shower. I always get more weepers and end up with more bumps on my neck shaving at the sink, no matter what kind of prep I do. Just my skin I guess.

I love showering, and would think about shaving there except for-

1) I like hot showers. HOT showers.
2) I like BIG mirrors. BIGGGGGG mirrors.
3) I take a while to shave and don't want to waste shower water
4) I can't see without my glasses. Shower water on glasses doesn't help me much
5) If I turn the water off in the shower, I will feel chilled and want to get in a hot shower or dry off
6) I like to play with different soaps, no noise, shaving bowls, and have a sink of water to "shake" my razor of every 2 strokes.

Hence - shower and shave afterwards over the sink for me. Plus, when my daughter is over, she gets to play next to me and I get to hack my face up with a Muhle R41 (2013).
