Favorite synthetic brushes?

View attachment 1857153
Custom made synthetic from Arno Brush.
Handle: Classic #12 (resin)
Size: 26 mm (available up to 30 mm)
Loft: 55 mm (set at this height upon request)

Incredibly dense knot with quite some backbone. Lathers exceptionally well. Bristles are amazingly soft. This is a large brush. My favorite soap lathering tool.
Stunning Brush Handle and fibers Mate.

S being best
A being a rank lower
B being another tank lower, but still good.

It's funny, the big Bruce was one of the first brushes I acquired, and it's ends up being the best performing synthetic I've ever used. Just perfection, though it was sometimes frustrating forking out $50 for, say, a STFv2 and not liking it as much as the brush I already had.
I've never used Badger, I own just one Boar and I've been through a lot of synthetics. While Many Synthetics like the Omega Roma, EVO, SIMPSON T2 and T3 and a ton of others are great bowl lather tools, a few have stood out for me in terms of face lathering and bowl lathering - The Yaqi Caramel Cat's Whisker Synthetic and the Frank Shaving Pur-Tec Pro or G9. The FS is a stunning brush in terms of bowl and face lathering, dense with medium backbone and when splays beautifully.

But the best Brush ever for me even though the knot isn't dense is the Razorock Big Bruce. The way it works with face lathering is sublime. Extremely soft on the face and it whips up a monstrous lather. If I bought this first, I would have saved a ton of money which I spent on the more expensive synths.

I have had my eye on the below five brushes and if anyone has used them, please share your feedback -
1. The PAA Astraeus
2. The PAA Amber Aerolite
3. The Razorock BC Silvertip
4. The Goodfellas Smile Bad Boy
5. The Goodfellas Deep Sea or Galaxy

So, I've got 2 answers (I've got 2 synth).
Bang for the buck has to be Maggard Tuxedo. It does everything well... not stellar, but it's under $20, and it's in my travel kit.
I have a Muhle STF (large), and it's better than the Tuxedo.
The Tuxedo is good, and I'd be happy with it... except, I got the STF.

That handle is <chef's kiss>.

Would you mind telling us (a) when you got it (b) how much paid (c) how long was the delivery wait?
TIA

I got this brush at the beginning of this year. I paid around EUR 40 for it and it took about a week until it arrived.

Arno doesn’t offer synthetic knots on their website, but they do offer them on their Ali express shop; search for Arno Shaving Brush. They don’t seem to have the Classic handle on their shop, but they do have it on their website.

A 26mm G5 knot in bulb shape in the cold flame battle axe handle would cost EUR 46 plus about EUR 8 for shipping.

If you’re interested I suggest to get in touch with them either through their website or their shop to discuss your requests such as handle choice and loft. I’m not sure whether they can accommodate you for a higher loft size though, they could for me as I’m based in China, but couldn’t for other international orders. I guess it has something to do with return policy because they would need to basically turn a new handle for you.

But I would ask anyway, I found them to be quite responsive and helpful and I have bought so far four brushes from them. All of which are outstanding lathering machines.

Muehle STF and Wald, the latter one is quite pricey and really does not compare to any other synthetic, it is just so different.
I'm new, but looking at Wald's website is the only way to get a Wald knot to join a mailing list and hope to get a slot? Does he sell the knots in a different way than the finished brushes?

Thanks.

I just got my 1st synthetic brush and it is the Goodfellas Smile. I really like it. It built lather very fast and worked well. I can't say how it compares to others, but it beats my other boar and badger brushes.

He does not sell knots separately, only finished brushes. Yes, if you’re interested in one of his brushes, join the mailing list. He’ll send out an email announcing a drop at a specific date and time

He does both pre-made and made-to-order brushes. For the custom, you are buying a spot on the list. Let me know if you have any other questions! :)

Thank you so much. I guess I will think on it, my tastes in brush handle shape are a bit different than what he offers now.

I am hoping to get a high quality synthetic knot and place it in a different handle.

You’re welcome. I only have his Nimbus handle but find it very comfortable. An added bonus is that the upper ring keeps lather from running down onto your hands

If you’re looking for a knot by itself, I’d highly recommend checking out AP Shave Co. Wide selection of quality products and Andrew, the owner, is wonderful to do business with

Sorry, I missed this earlier. I've used the Aerolite and BC Silvertip. The Aerolite is 24mm but feels larger. The tips are soft but every so often a bit of scritch slips through. It splays easily and has good flowthrough. Overall an excellent lather generator. I like the amber handle but it's personal choice whether it feels comfortable or not. The BC is a generation 4 synth and it's just not as soft as later knots. It's supposed to be softer than the standard Plissoft, but I didn't find much difference. It's not uncomfortable, though; it works fine and produces lots of lather with some minor scrub.

I have taken your advice and purchased a two knots from AP Shave Co. (Though one isn't synthetic, it just looked nice. The 26mm G5C and the 26mm Shavemac silvertip 2 band badger.) I can only hope to do them justice placing them in handles. One handle is ordered, the other I am planning to attempt to make it myself out of antler.

I think that's a great answer mate thank you for that. So in a toss up between the Amber Aerolite and the BC silvertip, would you pick the PAA?

Mate, you have no idea how I've been looking for a Goodfellas smile Brush User. Which Goodfellas Smile are you using, The Bad Boy, Galaxy, The Deep ? And how is the splay and backbone? Does it have a noticeable glue bump when you splay it on the face?

I've owned about 25 brushes since joining. I hated the first 2 synths I bought. One I PIF'd to another member, and the other was only good for cleaning my keyboards. My third synth was a RazoRock Plissoft Chrome which I like and use mainly for my discontinued soaps because it eats less soap than my favorite badgers. The heavy chrome handle was a bit awkward at first, but the 24mm Plissoft is a good knot.
