What's new

East Coast blizzard

I look in wonder, living on the North Shore of Lake Ontario, you would think we would get socked with a ton of snow, it's cold here in Greater Toronto but barely a dusting of snow, in fact most of it is blown away.

If you can direct 2' of that snow where I go skiing I would be really happy:). While there is good coverage from local snowfall, fresh powder is always welcome.

Stay safe out there and leave plenty of distance between you and the vehicle in front.

I am in the eye of the storm for New Jersey at least. Brick Twp had a record 34 inches of snow, which I say it should be higher given the state of my street. Just the bonnets or the tops of the fire hydrants are showing, and it is like that from curb to curb. No mail service since Friday and our street is impassable even for my Dodge Dakota in 4wd.

It gets a little scary not being able to leave the house. The police/EMS will come in several big army trucks the town picked up a few years back for coastal flooding etc and will divert a plow to you in an emergency, but it would still take up to an hour to get to us. This is a town of 85+ thousand people, not a rural community, and in New Jersey with adequate snow equipment for most events. I begin to worry about about simple things like a leaky pipe, a broken furnace, etc that I could not get to the Home Depot to fix or a serviceman to come in. As time goes on, three days now into not seeing a plow, I wonder about the odds of something happening increasing. Mostly a mind game I know but with a four year old I like to have a plan in place. I have some neat pictures but don't know if this is the place for them.

I have a bunch of orders packed and ready to ship, holding since Christmas eve, but I can't get past my driveway which I cleared with my snow blower and most of Monday morning into the afternoon. When the plow does come, forget about it, that will be another days work.

Is it me or did this thing sneak up on all of us. Was I too busy with the holiday to notice or did they warn us.

I think this is my last winter in the NYC area. I dug out to drive to my father's house in Central NJ to dig him out and I've had it already. The snow storms are getting worse and the snow removal isnt keeping up with the storms.

Well, my flight was canceled. Rescheduled to Jan 2nd, which means I miss both my girlfriends birthday (tomorrow) and New Years Eve/Day. This has completely ruined my winter break and I'm incredibly depressed.

If anyone's still following my sob story:

I got a flight into JFK tomorrow night at 10pm! Looks like I get to make a grand entrance for New Year's Eve.

Ah, I found something this snow is good for.
