East Coast blizzard

We got about 15" out here west of Boston. Of course, our stove had to go on the blink last night so we can't cook anything. Might have to shovel a path to the grill and do some winter grilling.

Interesting thing is that there's almost no snow on the roof, which suggests that this really was a blizzard, with the high winds blowing everything off.

Anyway, I've got my two-manpower snowthrower at work outside. And, boy, it's easier to get a 20-year Toro to start up than two teenager boys...

2 to 2.5' feet along the RT 22 corridor 12 miles fro the Holland Tunnel.....thank god for the neighbors snow blower

Well, at least one of us got to New Orleans.

Are you still in NYC?

We wound up with a pretty good accumulation down here in NC. Looks like it's much worse up there. What a Christmas! And here I was feeling kind of sorry for myself that I didn't plan a quick Christmas trip somewhere.

Yep, we're still here (in the 'burbs, not NYC proper), and we're not going anywhere. The only alternative flights were unworkable.

It's a bummer that our trip got cancelled, but we're figuring out fun things to do with the kids up here this week, and I'm just happy we didn't lose power like last winter.

Not so bad here just outside of Trenton. While we did get phone call from the township announcing a snow emergency. the depth is under six inches. But the wind! Drifts are forming. Traffic is way less than normal also, and even I 195 has very little traffic on it. But a couple of neighbors have been out with snow blowers clearing things for everybody. And the geese are huddled on the lake with occasional flights heading out to feed. They are really struggling with the wind.

Oh, spare me. Two whole feet? woooooooo. So you've got a little snow. The Blizzard of 1978 had six times that. Well, it did after the National Guard pushed it all onto our front yard. Still, there was more snow than 2'! People are gettin' really wimpy.

Besides the howling wind, Brooklyn is quiet today. If you have to walk outside, it has to be down the middle of the street. I think my wife and I are going to brave the elements and catch "The King's Speech."

I remember the storm in '78. I lived in Bolton just outside of Hartford. There was ice storm around then too I remember that had everything so heavy power lines and tree limbs were just creaking and crackling and then falling everywhere. What a winter that was. I live in Fl. now but we had snow flurries yesterday which is quite rare.

Here in costal VA we got 17.4 inches. Not bad for this area!!! First time in ages. I am actually loving it because I never see this much snow. I got out with the Hubbie and the muhnchkin and built a snowman. I may go back out later today and play some more. Who knows. It is fun for a while, but when it gets all dark and messy I dont like it anymore.

Why is everybody worried about a little dusting? Two feet please, half of you guys used to shave up hill ten miles both ways in that kind of weather. :biggrin1: Ok kidding aside its a lot of snow.

We got nailed with one like that last year, the snow drifts are the biggest problem, I hope everybody has the ability to stay indoors. Keep safe and keep warm guys.

SWMBOAATOE has decreed the that the snowblower will not be used on the driveway pavers, so I had to move about 100 cubic yards of snow by hand.:cursing:

I don't think I understood any part of your sentence. "SWMBOAATOE"? "paver"? What?

Not to stir the pot but if she doesn't want a snow blower used on pavers then by conversion didn't she volunteer to shovel the drive? If your blower has rubberized tines it shouldn't hurt the drive. You should also remind her that you could have hurt your back or had a heart attack.

Actually, it was 27." What made the Blizzard of 78 memorable was because the city hadn't had a blizzard like that in a long time and the city (and suburbs) were totally unprepared to handle it.

The Blizzard of 2005 was much worse, dropping nearly 3 feet of snow in MA. The difference here was that snow removal procedures had improved so much by then that it took only a couple of days for the roads to be passable again.

Well, safe to say that sucked. Officially it was 20.5" in NYC, they did not measure the drifts that were attracted to my house. Three feet most everywhere and five filled my driveway, could not get down to the woodpile today. It's not how deep it got, it's that there is nowhere to put it in Brooklyn. I manage to stash a good 30 cu yards (yes I accept that I am only a third the man Ouch is) in the neighborhood without creating the 10 foot tall pile the group across the street from me built that turned a once busy two way street into a meandering single lane ski trail. 45 degrees by Friday, lots of water to come!
