Surprise!

Whoa, this is the aggressive razor bar none(slight exaggeration)! First observation is that the blade is not as well located inside the head as the R41GS, I am not sure how to explain this. More blade reveal, yes, but something more. The teeth, an apt descriptor, somehow rounded and sharp at the same time. What is unfortunate is there is no contact on the bottom side of the blade, this means that the only support is quite a ways inwards. Not much bend to speak of, seemed less than the R41GS even.

The shave was surprisingly familiar, but different. It somehow lacks the tactile velcro being pulled sensation that the R41 has, it might have been how I was using it. The blade engages on the steep end of neutral and you can use the shallow end to reduce blade feel, but it doesn't feel too effective. The entire time, it felt like it was scraping my skin, but just below the level of concern. It was like: oh wow, my face is going to be ripped up after this, but I just can't stop myself! I really hover shaved and that reduced the effectiveness, it wasn't really necessary it turns out. You have to just ignore the scratching and use your best technique and take what you get.

What I got was the same as what I get with the Blackbird Titanium, closeness wise. I don't think it shredded my face, no blood loss other than a self inflicted twitch cut. I won't know until tomorrow, but the aftershave didn't signal danger.

I am not sure how I feel about this razor after one shave and I am not sure it was worth over $100 to find out, but it's interesting and worth continuing to explore.

Side note: I got the situation posted above handled to my satisfaction, but can't send the razor back so that is why I am using it. I will be getting the correct handle for a reasonable amount(not full price).
This is exactly my experience. Well said. It's one of those razors where I'm willing to give some more time to it but I don't think I can BST them cause I know the new owner might suffer the same consequence. Full disclaimers needed before selling it off.

@Flanders when looking at the blade inside the Z0 head from above, my Z0 prototype head has a shorter cap compared to my R41s. So less support for the blade from above, one sees quite a lot more blade sticking out.

I was told the production version was milder than the prototype due to more blade coverage from above. But somehow it doesn't sound like what you describe.

I think they copied the R41 2011 specs, I don't have such a R41 here, unfortunately.

My R41 GS is definitely not as harsh. I recommend shaving a bit more shallow with the Z0.

P.S. ordered finally a DSCosmetic WR2 clone yesterday, their AX 1.55 Ti. Let's see how it compares to my Yaqi Sentinel 1.5 OC, which I like a lot. I also ordered one of their new Ti handles. They still don't offer fancy stands at DSCosmetic, unfortunately.

The AX in stainless is an excellent recipe in my view. I have been told it’s different from the Sentinel. The AX is a closer clone of the WR2 according to my source who used all three for comparison. If all goes well at the post office I will be getting the 1.50SB Sentinel later this month - I will report my impressions as well then.

I don’t want to exaggerate too much, one poster said it would be a half step more aggressive than the GS and that sounds about right. I was expecting the fact that it’s titanium to smooth that out more though. 10 hours after shaving and my face feels like I just shaved so that’s something!

I don’t have anything else except the GS, but I suspect what they did was clone the 2011, as you said, and then extend the coverage a little bit. But, I doubt that they even examined a GS before doing so, sounds about right for these companies. In other words, it’s like putting a 2013 cap on a 2011 baseplate, just barely civilizing it.

I will look forward to your review of the AX when you get it. I went a different direction and got the Shield DE3 which has a lower gap, but big exposure. It’s currently unusable for me even though I can manage with the Z0!

Aaron, if you get a chance can you kindly post a photo of the underside of your Z0 cap?
Does this help or do you want me to get the macro lens out?
