This is exactly my experience. Well said. It's one of those razors where I'm willing to give some more time to it but I don't think I can BST them cause I know the new owner might suffer the same consequence. Full disclaimers needed before selling it off.Surprise!
Whoa, this is the aggressive razor bar none(slight exaggeration)! First observation is that the blade is not as well located inside the head as the R41GS, I am not sure how to explain this. More blade reveal, yes, but something more. The teeth, an apt descriptor, somehow rounded and sharp at the same time. What is unfortunate is there is no contact on the bottom side of the blade, this means that the only support is quite a ways inwards. Not much bend to speak of, seemed less than the R41GS even.
The shave was surprisingly familiar, but different. It somehow lacks the tactile velcro being pulled sensation that the R41 has, it might have been how I was using it. The blade engages on the steep end of neutral and you can use the shallow end to reduce blade feel, but it doesn't feel too effective. The entire time, it felt like it was scraping my skin, but just below the level of concern. It was like: oh wow, my face is going to be ripped up after this, but I just can't stop myself! I really hover shaved and that reduced the effectiveness, it wasn't really necessary it turns out. You have to just ignore the scratching and use your best technique and take what you get.
What I got was the same as what I get with the Blackbird Titanium, closeness wise. I don't think it shredded my face, no blood loss other than a self inflicted twitch cut. I won't know until tomorrow, but the aftershave didn't signal danger.
I am not sure how I feel about this razor after one shave and I am not sure it was worth over $100 to find out, but it's interesting and worth continuing to explore.
Side note: I got the situation posted above handled to my satisfaction, but can't send the razor back so that is why I am using it. I will be getting the correct handle for a reasonable amount(not full price).
