Do you shave the same way every time?

I change all the time. Same directional passes, but not always the same number of passes. I change bowl and scuttle all the time. I rarely face lather except when I am on the road. Some variation on prep, mainly do I, or do I not include GFT Skin Food. Same cleanup. Mostly always use alum. AS varies all the time.

I wouldn't go so far as to say that I make it up as I go, but I don't have a go-to routine either.
Still experimenting.

Same routine but not auto pilot, as I like to change the hardware. I rushed a DE shavette shave earlier in the week and had a deep nick, I usually use a cabinet/A9 long blade for shavette's for which I take my time leisurely.

No.

With a DE razor, the routine is basically the same: 3 passes.... WTG, XTG, ATG..... but the razor, blade, brush and all the software changes for about every shave.

I like to mix it up a bit. Honestly I think the variety is a big part of why I got into DE shaving.

I have a ball end Tech of just about every description you can think of, and I switch which one I'm using quite often. I've got three different brushes, and about four different kinds of cream/soap going at the same time.

My usual routine is two passes WTG and one pass ATG. If my face feels a bit roughed up I might just do two passes WTG and call it good. I do that quite frequently during the winter.

My razors change in rotation, but use the same blades (IP Reds) yet the same approach for 45+ years applies. Shower, soak the brush in the process, get the shaving soap out and 3 pass plus buffing, cleanup including the razor every time. All in about 30 minutes. I love the daily ritual, usually can't wait.

Reviving this thread

Yes and no. I am a go for BBS thinker with each shave, type of guy. The question for me is, how invested am I in putting the time and energy into achieving it.

I have my technique down to where I don’t get nicks, but I can get slight razor burn if I get too carried away during the shave. Nothing a little hydrocortisone cannot help with.

My face shaves average 30 minutes while relaxing and listening to music or enjoying a YouTube WW2 background. I usually focus on obtaining a three or four pass BBS shave. Being able to focus on improving my technique during each shave, doing something a little different, is how I enjoy the process. Figuring out how to manage my trouble spots can be challenging.

I can do this because during my shaves, my main focus is how am I going to get the BBS shave I want.

I don’t change anything other variables during my shave. I only use one of two razors, the same blade and I only shave with shaving oil so I can see what I am shaving. It works for me.

I get to do this every morning. It makes my day.

Do you shave the same way every shave?

I am still new at this so I would say no and that I am figuring things out. I do however try to shave the same way as of the last several weeks I have been WTG throughout followed by a second pass XTG face and ATG neck which seems to work as a daily shave or every other day shave. If I want to get closer I will add a 3rd pass to ATG face. The razor, blade, soaps, brushes, bowls, etc. are all a work in progress - that's the fun part for me.
