Brotherhood of the Boar

Sunday Seven Day Double Decemboar 8

Blade - Single Use Feather🇯🇵
Razor - Lupo OC95 driven with a Chiseled Face Pineapple Twist Titanium Handle 🇨🇦 🇺🇸
Brush - Zenith Boar Chubby Scrubby B27-28x55mm🇮🇹
Soap - Felce Aromatica🇮🇹

I’m glad to be rotating between the Big One and the Chubby Scrubby. The Big One and the Chubby are both totally broken in. They both load the same in excellent fashion. The Chubby with a smaller footprint isn’t much of a difference except smaller in its painting coverage. The Chubby’s scrub is slightly elevated but oh so comfortable. Fully loaded Chubby is more than enough lather for my ATG single pass face shave. And a reload for the head shave. While the dynamics between the two brushes are mostly mirrored. The handle size and knot size being smaller is the biggest stand out between the two. Both brushes highly enjoyable to use.

With two new incoming Chinese boar 28mm knots both fans one being a flat top trimmed. An acrylic handle and a combination wood acrylic handle. Also a Semogue SOC boar. I really don’t need anymore brushes. I don’t foresee these brushes getting any use until well into March. I enjoy breaking in boar brushes and look forward to ushering these pigs into good mannered boars. I will not use brushes until they are at least 95% broken in. I am also curious as to how my Zenith’s compare and stack up to some competitors. It will be interesting to step out of the House of Zenith. We don’t want our shaves to become boring 🥱

This afternoon’s bright sunshine melted the light snow dusting we received the last few days. The dust cover remains over the new electric snowblower. Still awaiting its maiden run. The sun streaming through the windows encouraging my weekly shave. An Afternoon Delight.

An excellent shave listening to my favourite show from our local radio station. Two hours of music from the thirties and forties. My dad had a large selection of 78’s that he used to play all the time and I’m familiar with many of the tunes. I wish I had kept them. They were pre-vinyl.

My familiarity with the Lupo continues and I love that wolf. Close comfortable face & head shaves with great skin comfort. My shiny globe sparkling in the afternoon sun.

Those are two very nice brushes! I tend to reach for the Big One much more than the Chubby Scrubby myself. The Big One is so very unique with its large size, but not too Large. Truly is a wonderful brush.

I had used the Big One exclusively for well over a year but with new knots and a Semogue coming in. I wanted to get back to using a bit smaller knot for comparison. The Zenith knots are dense and use finer hair than any of the other boars I have used. I think these attributes elevate their softness comparatively. Looking forward to seeing if this holds true once I get the new knots broken in.

Mail Call

A pleasant surprise today. The SOC Semogue Estandar was delivered. I bought it on spec without any measurements posted by Semogue. After learning it wouldn’t be a 27 or 28 mm knot I had it in my head that I would probably just return it. First impressions are valuable in all we experience. Removing it from its carton I was immediately delighted with the weight and balance of the brush in my hand. The handle looks and feels very much like an excellent acrylic. With its chrome ring at the top of the handle it is a handsome brush. It weighs in at 83 grams for comparisons sake my Zenith Chubby Scrubby weighs 79 grams. The Estandar knot measured 26mm with the loft measuring 56mm comparable to Zenith’s Big one also a 56mm loft. Being a smaller knot I thought it might be a bit floppy. The backbone felt very balanced for the loft length. The knot density is a tad lighter than the Zeniths. But adequate. The bristle hairs are a tad thicker than both of the Zeniths I have. After shampooing the knot. Only a slight odour of bristle rather than barnyard. I hand lathered it three times and was very happy with the bloom. I gave it a good towelling and was pleased and surprised to see hair splits uniformly appearing across the knot profile. My first latherings with the Estandar I feel that it will break in fairly quickly. The Estandar is in water up to it’s ring in the back of the refrigerator where I’ll leave it for two days and then repeat the cycle. When I consider it 95% broken in I’ll shave with it. No rush maybe a New Years shave.

what is an "Estandar"? I haven't found anything online, is this a "regular" SOC boar?
That is what it is called on the Amazon post, where I purchased it.

The receipt I received with it was from SuperHeroStuff.com , in Dunmore PA
They refer to it as Semogue Premium Boar Taj Handle Shaving Brush

And many Semogue owners just refer to this level brush as SOC (Semogue Owners Club)

So I guess it depends who your talking to.

I found the photo on Amazon’s post somewhat misleading as it is portrayed very much like a Chubby brush. Which it definitely is not.
