Bored at work, how do you pass time?

I don't have a chance to get bored at work. When at work, I'm busy! When I'm not busy I'm done with work until the next job is started.

I have to stay pretty vigilant. If I get bored I will usually drive around and check all the Stop N' Robs on my beat. Or prowl the neighborhoods blacked out looking for burglars to reform. And there is always paperwork to be done. My smartphone helps for the times when it is slow, like wintertime. Even dedicated criminals don't want to be out at 3 AM when it's icy and 15 degrees.

ASG, If your workplace is that slow in this economy you should be polishing your resume' to pass the time.

I work for the Department of Education in Washington D.C. It was slow yesterday because Obama came in to give a little talk on this new fund raiser thing hes working on. But ya if I am not doing SQL stuff I sit there and twiddle fingers:rolleyes:

With the economy the way it is, they laid off a bunch of guys and I'm now the one-man service department. Having nothing to do is just something that never happens. :c14: (I think that's supposed to be a smiley that's sweating from hard work, but who can really tell?)

You should try teaching.

Side projects.
Find something outside of your normal realm of responsibilities, and take care of that when there's nothing else to do.

I have one of those jobs where we pray for boredom. When things are exciting it means something is going WRONG!

I don't know where ppl get those kinds of jobs. I know I've never had one, but I also know they do exist. Every single job I've ever had I've been flat out from the moment I arrive till [sometimes after] closing time.

I had a guy working for me once who used to work for a bank. I would see him sometimes totally motionless, staring blankly at nothing. I would have to ask him how he was going on his daily tasks and point out what he was *supposed* to be doing in between customers. He left after about 6 weeks...

A month later, he dropped in to say hi. He was working at the local university, in some kind of admin role. He told me that he usually had his whole weeks work done by Monday afternoon, the rest of the week he just had to show up.

I sometimes think I would like a job like that.
But who really knows?
The grass is always greener...

Gotta love government jobs:lol:

The guy who sits next to me at work just falls asleep. I don't think this is a good idea but he seems pleased.

lmao, he'll probably be doin that for the next 10 years and no one will be the wiser. when someone falls asleep at my work we talk pictures or videos and pass em round for a laugh. next time he falls asleep pour a bottle of baby powder in his hair or when he wakes up get a friend to ring him and says he's a boss who's been watching him and wants him to come to the office for a chat.

Yeah I'm almost always bored at work I normally just find a space on the ship and crash out making sure my radio is loud enough to wake me up or my partner is awake(we sleep in shifts). Gotta love night shift security on an aircraft carrier thats holed up in a shipyard.
