Blutt 1.2 Review - Revealing Comfort

The Accuthrive is the rebranded MedPrep., The Accuforge is the rebranded Lab Blues. The Accuthrive goes through a more thorough sterilization process. IMHO, the Accuforge has a bit more coating on it. The Accuthrive, TO ME, is better than the Feather. However, if the price is a block, you should look at the Dorco Prime blades. I was turned on to these by @Dtownvino and they are fantastic.
Thanks for clarifying that Wally. I do love the Accuthrive too. I always get mixed up between the Lab Blues and the Medprep rebranding or renaming.

FINAL THOUGHTS ON THE BLUTT 1.2
I have now had 5 consecutive shaves with the Blutt using different soaps and blades. The razor has done an outstanding job with all variables. You will notice that the edges of the top cap overhang the baseplate. Although, this is handy in removing the cap from the plate and the blade, I have noticed that it can hit your nostrils if you aren't careful. The head is thin and is easily maneuverable. Remember that it is SNEAKY EFFICIENT. Don't press too hard. In that regard, it is very similar to the Paradigm Diamondback Ti (another wonderful razor).
This razor is smooth and efficient. It is not an Athena, but it is fun to use and does a great job. If you are a collector, it is definitely worth having. This razor will have a spot in my rotation.
Great shaves to all.

Very much so. It is a mechanical wonder and beautiful to look at.

Truly it is. I'm going to quit looking at the Blutt. Why buy another razor which isn't quite as good as the two Athenas I already own? (One, a backup, is new and in the box.)

Besides I also have the excellent Oliblade M3teorite with all three baseplates. (Admittedly, I've only used the mild baseplate.)

Not that I don't have a slew of other excellent razors, but I surely like the Athena and the M3teorite when it comes to non-adjustable DE razors.

Interesting thread this one.

Happy shaves,

Jim

Great review. Agreed on all counts.

I agree with you that the M3teorite is excellent. You might want to try the Aggressive plate. Surprisingly, it is just as smooth and comfortable as the Medium but more efficient. weird, huh?

One really unique aspect of the Blutt is its comfort, which is not superior to the Athena, but different due to its very low blade feel. It really shines on days you are looking for a super smooth shave.

You stole my thunder here. Used my Athena this morning and it was deafening compared to my Blutt. Not sure I care for it actually. It is visually stunning and reliably delivers whereas the Blutt has a more utilitarian look to it rather than being a showpiece like my Athena. If pressed to choose one, I would choose the Blutt now that I have seen what the 1.20 brings to the table.

Are y'all saying the Blutt 1.20 has less blade feel than the Athena? If so, what is the Blutt 1.20's propensity to bite?

You use the Blutt 1.20 for daily shaves?

What is your skin like? How heavy and/or dense is your beard, how hard to shave are your whiskers?

Thanks and happy shaves,

Jim

The Blutt BR-1 will always have a special place in my heart. As I’ve mentioned so many times, the Blutt was the first razor that showed me what a double edge razor can do. Granted, I had very little experience at the time, but even after 2+ years, the Blutt remains one of my favorite razors.

Is it better than the Athena? This is almost an apples and oranges comparison. I enjoy both of them very much. To add a fly to the ointment, I have to say I’m overwhelmed by how good my recently acquired Rocnel Elite 2023 razor is. I realize it’s made in Turkey, and this is offputting to some people. That aside, it is one of the best razors I’ve ever used.

I have a small collection of very nice razors, and these three will always be part of it. I have a few very good AC razors, but they aren’t under discussion.

Don’t forget the Lambda Ares…… in my view, it is certainly in this category of great double edge, razors.

⬆︎This⇡ makes me, as a daily shaver with somewhat sensitive skin and an average beard density, very afraid to spring for a 1.20.

I've been reading Errol's reviews from Down Under. His reviews are sometimes cut and paste material. He reviews the 0.86, the 0.99, and the 1.20 and seems to like them all.

Given the price and how many great razors I already own, I'm not fixing to buy another expensive razor, but I suppose I'm thinking about thinking about it.

Happy shaves,

Jim

Thanks, Kim.

I'm assuming your Blutt is the 1.20 unless I hear otherwise or get unlazy enough to do my homework.

I like my brass Elite, too.

Truth is, I have many excellent razors.

Jim
