Blackbird Ti SB/OC vs Lupo 95 SB/OC

Black Friday sale for Blackbird is just 4 days away. I’m interested in getting one myself. This is gonna be my first Blackland and Titanium razor with short handle so I’m excited about it. I know there are a lot of razors out there but this post is all about Blackbird in comparison with Lupo.

I have Lupo with all its base plates both in SB and OC’s except the 1.27. I shave every alternate day and enjoy the efficiency and smoothness of the Lupo 95 OC.

Before placing my order, I would like to kindly seek advice for those who had experienced shaving with both BB and Lupo.

Which Blackbird base plate is close to Lupo 95 OC in terms of efficiency and smoothness? Not sure if I should get the SB or OC plate. Usually extra base plates ends up being tucked away.

In addition, I am having 2nd thoughts on BB inkwell stand and I know its optional. Honestly, I am not into vertical type of stand. I prefer the Henson stand where the razor could rest sideways instead. Most handles with diameter of around 14mm and below fits. Not sure if BB will fit though. Anyone knows the exact diameter of BB’s handle on both ends? Only its length was mentioned on their website.

Thanks in advance and appreciate any advise I could get.

Cool and slimy
The only baseplate of the Blackbird that can be a bit more rough is the OC. The SB is shaving at a more shallow angle than the Lupo and is also way milder than the Lupo .95, whould say around Lupo .72. They shave vastly different.

I would recommend you, and about everyone else, the normal Blackbird SB plate. And get it polished. Thank me later when you admire your Blackbird! :)

Thanks, I also noticed that the BB OC base plate has a pointy comb, sharp feel look.
I haven't tried it but it could be rough on face feel.
It's way different than Lupo OC which has a nice rounded edges.

I prefer shaving on shallow angle so that's good to know.
I’ve always wanted to try the Lupo! I’m a huge fan of the Black Bird, you’re in for a treat!

Oh you gotta try Lupo, it's really good. I have nothing against it.
Ingenuity in its design is truly amazing, simply engineering at its best.
My current favorite among all my razors.

I just want to experience having a Blackbird Ti.
Good discount offer this coming BF sale, hard to resist.

I prefer the Lupo 72 and 95SB to the BB Standard SB and that about all I wish to say about that.

Thanks a lot !
This is exactly what I am looking for.
All looks good except for that 14.8 on the top part.

Although the curvature part near the base plate (probably around 12 -13 mm by estimate) may rest on the Henson handle.

@WhiskerLess be aware of the recess in the baseplate for the Blackbird handle, in which the handle screws in.

An alternative handle would have to have the diameter of the inner upper ring that dials into the recess of the Blackbird baseplate.

Noted and thanks for the heads up.
I will get BB's matching stand just in case but if this bad boy fits on Henson stand, I will probably end up not using it.

I would assume that inner ring will go all the way through the recess.
Handle gets to have a stopper like effect after threading it.
As long as the BB handle is less than 14mm and below (end to end), it should rest nicely in the Henson stand.

Looks like there is a small curvature left in between the 14.8 mm and the inner upper ring.
It's curving in diameter ranging from 11 mm ~ 14 mm give or take.

The bottom end is at 11.8 mm so should be ok.

We do have a few boxes of Personnas stocked but I recommend ordering on the early side if the Lab Blues are important to you. I suspect they'll move fairly quickly.

Thanks Shane.
My order for a shiny BB Ti SB has been placed.

Early (Ti)bird gets the worm, waiting for shipping confirmation.
Guess I'm one of the many new owners of this bad boy.
