GC84 vs Lupo 58

I just so happen to have both loaded up with a blade so did a comparison shave today. I used to have a GC84 but for some reason didn't care for it and sold it after a couple shaves. I got another one because a member had a good deal with the titanium handle so I couldn't resist, and I'm not sure if my technique has evolved that quick or a handle made that much of a difference, but I feel it give as good of a shave as my Lupo 58. It had the same efficiency but a bit smoother on the lower neck agt. It does require a slightly shallower angle, and the Lupo still wins in terms of head geometry for those tight places, but not I'm questioning after this mornings shave. For the heck of it I got a used 68 plate coming in to also compare to for maybe a recovery shave day, but now I'm having a bit of a harder time deciding my favorite. I also tried an even shorter Yaqi handle on it half way through and it seems to help me maintain a shallower angle and use less pressure. Conversely, I seemed to prefer the longer titanium handle on the Lupo. It was still lighter than the steel handle, but the extra leverage seemed to allow a lighter touch at a steeper angle. Maybe I'm just getting a bit more experienced so am able to adapt to different razors within my comfort zone? I have a Yates Winning coming which will be really interesting because so far I don't get along with the really mild razors. My sweet spot seems to be in the mid level blade gap with some blade exposure and feedback. I'm also wondering if a straighter blade with the slight exposure is better since I can play with the angle a bit more around the sensitive areas, so again the Winning will really test that theory.

I survived a lathey foreman
I found the RR GC.84 a tame mid range and the Lupo.72 a great mid range with excellent design and clamping of the blade.
I also use the Kai SS extra wide blade in the RR GC.84 and the results are excellent now, but the Kai SS costs more but longevity is outstanding.

Have some great shaves!

Kais are great on razor you feel would shine with a bit more exposure. Used it on my Yates H and TRC Level 1.

I love kais as well! I can get around 2 weeks of shaving out of a kai blade, I don't know how but it feels like the edge lasts longer and holds up so much better than most other de blades i've ever tried. I'm also a daily 2 pass shaver, so that might have something to add to it.

Got a long term update?

Got a long term update?

Yeah I suppose the long term update is my ADHD still isn't under control lol. But in all seriousness I now own a Gamechange in the 84 again and use it occasionally. My normal one though is the 68 with a sharp-ish blade. I enjoy the Lupo 72sb and 72oc and use them on my face once in awhile, but the OC is also great for other areas and my girlfriend has been stealing it on occasion even. That said, my technique is as much at play as the razor (go figure right?) and the razor just determines how loose I can get with my wrist or attention before it bites me. I also have recently tried a Henson Mild Titanium and decided that was too lacking in blade feel. I would say with some attention the efficiency is equal or darn close to the GC 68 but I have to focus more on angle and prefer at least some blade feel. I also rotate in a Yaqi Ultima Slant on 3 or 4 which I like, and am waiting on a Yates Winning to compare against.

The constant is I definitely prefer shorter handles in the 82mm or less category and even swapped out the Henson handle when I was trying it. To make matters worse I'm also comparing about 7 different blades right now. So in short I am a terrible scientist because I can't limit myself to modifying 1 variable at a time. But I'd say on aggregate I still like that Mild-Medium to Medium category of razors with a blade on the sharper end but with some forgiveness. Ones I'm currently liking are Astra SP, Nacets, GSB, KAI, Treet 7 Day Plat, Durasharp, Personna Plats, and Gillette Platinum
