What's new

Best Razor, not a Henson, in the $100-$200 range

I used a DE-89 for ten years and liked it well enough. When I tried the GameChanger 68, it was too aggressive for me. Next up was the Feather AS/D2 and that was exactly what I was looking for. But the ubiquitous preWar Gillette Tech gives me the same shave. Gillette knew what they were doing with the Tech!

Chris is making a batch of brass and stainless now. His new mode is that he will post for sale only what he has ready to ship and will ship soon. So if you want an Overlander, they will likely be available soon.
we dont know how soon and it could be like 4 razors. When I bought my bison I thought I had time to contemplate. im glad I pulled the trigger because within 2 days all of them were gone. Its like when nike drops new limited edition air jordans you better be online when they drop lol

What kinda blade did you use in the gamechanger .68? I love mild razors and I find that razor is pretty mild. I do want the feather asd2 aswell though.

Timeless .68 stainless with either the straight bar or open comb. The oc does bump the price up to $220 but it’s such a smooth shaver. I settled on only oc Timeless razors after trying all 3 styles. It works great on 1 day of growth and also on 7 days. Did I mention it’s sooooo smooth?

The Timeless Bronze is nice. I don't know which blade gap, though.

I love my two Timeless mixed metal 0.68OC razors. The bronze 0.38 was also a great razor. I recently sold it on BST, but only to help secure the funds for another addition to my small collection.

I also tried the Ti 0.95SCL and the Slim. The 0.68OC is soooo smooth, as you mentioned and the perfect efficiency for me.

Beware the bronze, or at least the open comb. They aren’t the same design as the original stainless/titanium razors. I’ve seen the open comb described as incredibly aggressive by even people who like aggressive razors. The straight bar isn’t as aggressive but I’m also not sure where it would fall on an aggressiveness scale.

Fwiw, I don’t have experience with either. But they aren’t the same as the stainless/titanium, which I love.

Edited to add: forgot to mention that with the ss/ti razors you can buy just the cap and baseplate if you don’t want the full razor.

I mixed titanium, Stainless Steel and Bronze parts for my two Timeless Ti 0.68OC razors.... Titanium cap and SS base plate; Bronze cap and titanium base plate (I use a bronze razor stand for this one.... It sets if off nicely)... Slightly different total weights.. both use the Ti Crown handle..... They are both outstanding.... No extra cost when you mix the metals.... They are all interchangeable, which is very nice... no waiting list... All scalloped caps....

The GC-68 is definitely a mild razor, but not as mild as the AS/D2. In the GC-68 I prefer tough blades like the Derby Platinum and Polsilver / Voskhod. In the AS/D2 I like very sharp blades such as the Feather, KAI, and King C Gillette. With the GC-68 I cut myself about once a week. No big deal, except I've shaved wirh the Feather for three years and never a nick.

gotcha! Yeah one day ill have an ASD2 its a nice razor.

The dreaded Aliexpress. I have only made 2 purchases ever from it - Yaqi Ti Ghost .70 and .90 with cross grain handles. I am not crazy about it but have to say a 110 dollar brand new Ti razor that I absolutely love is worth it.

Honestly I prefer it a lot of the Henson Ti, Winning Ti, Overlander in SS, Brass or Al and the Bison in Al. I’ve owned them all.

To me it’s there with my Ti Athena and Ti2 razors. Yes it’s different but for my thick, low angle beard hair and gentle skin, it just gives me an outstanding result.
