Best blade for people with sensitive skin due to psoriasis

I don’t have specific suggestions for you, as I don’t have sensitive skin. But if you want to try a variety of blades before you buy, consider checking out the Great Blade Exchange. The link is in my signature at the bottom of this post.

As a fellow psoriasis sufferer, smooth blades are a key. Of currently available blades, I strongly recommend the Suneko blades from China, which you can get on AliExpress. They are very smooth and won't irritate your skin. Couple those with a milder razor, like a vintage Gillette Super Speed, and you'll be good to go

Shave prep is also key. I use Cremo for Sensitive Skin as a pre-shave application just before the shaving soap goes on. The combination of the two makes my face super slick and has eliminated razor burn (which is a psoriasis trigger for me).

Otherwise, focus on smooth, steady strokes with little pressure, and you can mostly eliminate cuts in combination with all of the above.

Did you find your solution? I suspect it will involve using a cream that doesn't irritate the skin and a mild razor with no pressure to the point where it may not be practical to seek BBS, and instead settle for something less like DFS or even CCS. Smooth blades are important. I like Bic Chrome and Gillette Black (from India). I use the Bic because I don't like wax spots.

I don't have psoriasis, but I do know its an inflammatory desease and I know quit a bit about that so, I will then assume that you read the ingredients in shaving soaps and creams before purchasing.

As an example: Shaving creams are a far better choice simply because of their chemical makeup for example, a high quality, sensitive skin cream must be: fragrance (perfume) free, no sulfates or preservatives etc. to avoid flare-ups. By default, cream = moisturizer, soap = cleanser/lubricant. <- Not always entirely true, which is why understanding ingredients matter 😉

As for razors, minimal gap but also, neutral or negative exposure blade will help tremendously to avoid nicks and cuts but, the downside, you may not get that BBS shave.

I've researched razors based on specifications, some brands provide both gap and exposure information, unfortunately, I'm not aware of any inexpensive options that might be within your budget. Perhaps the B&B members can help with that.

One post mentioned Henson razors, I have one and it's the “Mild”, least aggressive option they offer. I bought it because I shave daily and daily shaving can compound irritation which I want to (obviously) avoid. In my opinion, its a very good razor. I also don't concern myself with a BBS shave, during the work week, I often just do a one or two pass WTG shave.

You mentioned that Henson is out of your budget, so even buying one on sale is risky unless you could ask friends if they have one (Mild) to try first.

If you do get a chance to try one, and like it, I purchased mine for example, at Fenderihan.ca when they had 15% off during Valentine's Day sale.

All the best,
Cheers 😊

I was wondering what DE blade will least likely nick/cut me (especially on the framer psoriasis patches.)
Have you found a suitable blade yet?
I see you were interested in 7 O'Clock SharpEdge and BIC Chrome, but Gillette Silver Blue could be worth a try; good balance of smoothness and sharpness.

Try washing your face with a mild facial cleanser, I use Cetaphil for oily skin. Also you might try leaving shave soap on your face for 1 to 3 minutes before shaving, you might need to apply more shave soap because some of it will dry or dissipate. Finally you might want to minimize the amount of passes you use on your face, no more than two passes.

Hi I’m new here! I have moderate psoriasis (some of it on my face) that I’ve been treating. I was wondering what DE blade will least likely nick/cut me (especially on the framer psoriasis patches.) I’m tired of having a full beard. Also any advice would be great.

Any blade that doesn't have machine oil residue on it.

I can't use any blades made in India, Bangladesh, Pakistan and a few others, due to machine oil residue.

Feather, BIC Chrome platinum, persona med prep are free of machine oil.

For other blades, you may want to remove machine oil residue using alcohol.

I don't have psoriasis but i do have ultra sensitive skin!
I use BIC blades and fragrance free soap/balm, otherwise my skin will punish me!

Feather has sticky goo. Are you saying it’s different from all other blades’ sticky goo? Kai is also goo-free.

You can't know without trying.
Blade edge coatings differ and the type of coating is what is important here. The stainless steel itself is less of a factor if it all. People get outbreaks from the coatings that are used.

I know it's never mentioned much, but the feather asd2 is the k8ndest razor by far to my skin. gsb or Wilkinson sword blades are very comfortably. Consider a scentless soap or cream. Also shave lightly every day. My skin suffers if I go more than 24 hours between shaves.

All modern stainless blades are coated with teflon even if not stated.
