BBS Throat Shave

Thanks for the tips! I do shave my throat while looking up. My hair near my Adam's Apple grows straight down. As I move away from that, my hair grows out and away. Kind of J shaped.

What is a good source for the Proraso Pre?

I have been DE shaving now for about 3 months. After turning my throat into pizza sauce using a Feather blade a few weeks ago, I am healed up. I have found the Wilkinson Sword and Personna Medical DE blades to be the ones I like so far.

I have yet to master getting a BBS shave on my throat. I go (correctly) WTG then XTG and then ATG. I still have stubble. And by the time I am doing the third pass ATG, I am getting razor rash.

So what is the trick to get a BBS throat shave without getting razor bumps and razor rash?

I am still struggling with this. Doing the passes I described above, it still seems like I need a few more on my throat. I recently got a couple of SE razors so I am going to try them and see if there is any improvement.

Every variable is more important on the neck than any other area. Light light touch, low low blade angle. Prep as in lather then hold a wash cloth wet with hot water against your neck for 30 secs or so. Re-lather and shave. Feel your face in various directions . . . where you feel stubble do a little blade buffing in that direction . . . staying light and low.

+1 Great advice. As little pressure as you can. I hold the razor so light it feels like it might drop from my hands.

I have also started to do three passes on my neck (WTG, XTG, and ATG) and touch up only if needed by either J hooking or blade buffing. However, light and easy does it.

I've done it a few times with my normal prep.
Just took more time and patience than usual.
You've got to use a light touch, go slow and
pay absolute attention to what your doing.
I appreciated the results but don't normally
spend that amount of time shaving.

For the longest time, I thought the guys who said they get the best results on their neck with a straight were nuts, but I have come to believe this to be true.

I get the best skin response to shaving with my straight, but there are other problem areas and difficult shave spots - especially with my U-turn hair growth.

Try this:
Use a new blade every 3 shaves or 4 max.
Lower your angle - the angle between the doors that open and your skin, not the angle.
Let the razor float - DON'T try to cut hair with your wtg and xtg passes. ATG is a totally different story.

The bottom line is: experiment, but change only one or two things at a time.

You'll be getting good shaves in no time.:thumbup1:

BTJustice,

I have very tough whiskers, and the hair on my neck seems to grrow every which way ! I have found 'J-hooking' to work very well, particularly around the Adams Apple.

Have fun !

Best regards
