B&B's Blade Bonanza - 2025 - Top-Tier Blades Edition

I used the 7 O'clock black in a Gillette NEW Short Comb Red/Black 1934. This is the first time I've noticed during this testing the 7 O'clock wasn't quite sharp enough to tackle my problem areas... It struggled a bit with my chin whiskers, while the NEW Canada Regent LC sailed right through them... Still, I ended up satisfied with the shave.... I don't know how the Regent compares to the US NEW Long Comb models.... I've mentioned it before, but when I sent the Regent to Chris when he still owned and operated Back Roads Gold, he told me he had replated over 20,000 razors and this was the first Canada Regent he'd ever seen.... I thought that was interesting... I didn't buy it because it was rare... and it wasn't priced like a rare Vintage razor... same price as the US NEW Long Combs...

Another "Thank You" to Mark / @BigAlVista for the gift of his excellent Natural 1 unscented shaving soap... What a pleasure to use....
My pleasure, Kim.

I completed 4 shaves using the 7 o'clock Super Platinum with my Game Changer .76. I did not notice anything in particular when I removed the blade. It did not get stuck more than usual. I believe that you mentioned something about this @showard? I bought my GC a few months ago. I don't know if the process changed when your razor was made versus mine. There's no wiggle at all when I use the GameChanger (which is how it should be).

Overall, I find it to be a great blade, but it lacks longevity! If that blade would go for 7 shaves instead of the 4-5 shaves that I got out of it, it would be a top blade for me.

I noted it as Middle+ on the wiki page as it's not an above average blade for me, but it's more than just average.

I also started Feather using my Merkur 38c. While Feather lacks smoothness, it's sharp. It's a blade that I know already. My favorite combo is the Gillette Tech/Feather. Right now, it's going great with the Merkur.

My Game Changer is also newer (bought at the beginning of the Bonanza) but my 7 O'clock blades are from 2012 and they are the only blade so far that has given me trouble loading/removing.....so it's that batch of blades, not the GC I suspect.

I really enjoyed them, but taking all into consideration (price, performance, longevity) they'll land at #3 for me:
1. Perma-Sharp
2.Nacet
3. 7 O'clock Super Platinum
4, WSI
5. Bic

Ok so I switched the 7OC Black out today for the Feather. To wrap up my overall thoughts of the Black's, they are sharp, as have all the other blades in the Bonanza (with the exception of the Super Iridiums, lol). But as opposed to the Bic's the Black's leave me with a lot less irritation. When I factor in longevity and price the Black's fall below the Perma Sharp's and Nacets. So my overall ratings are exactly the same as @showard

I paired the Feather with a Gillette Super Speed (or is it a Rocket?) And some vintage Old Spice soap. The Feather is sharp, like real sharp. BUT provided you don't get excited and start using pressure it's not as fearsome as some would lead you to believe. Simple two pass shave this morning with excellent drama free results.

I am not sure whereabouts the original comment from @showard is, but I have noticed that Indian made Gillettes can be a very snug fit on my original Gamechanger (circa 5 years old). I haven't tried one yet in my newer Gamechanger (circa 3 months old) but I certainly can if it is useful "for science".

Feather shave #1

We made it home so I showered and shaved using water I'm accustomed to.
Put the Feather (my batch was purchased in 2014) into my GC with the .76 plate. And.......perfection ensued! I deliberately paid attention to my pressure for 2 passes (WTG/ATG) and experienced no tugging, no weepers. I really couldn't even sense the hair being cut. But if anyone's apprehensive about the Feather, just treat it gently and you will be rewarded!

I needed one more day with the 7OCB for my Tech and my Superspeed. The Tech was clearly the "everyman's razor". Inexpensive to make, easy to use, hard to nick yourself with, and it shaved close enough. The 7OCB provided a reasonable DFS shave in mine, with not a lot of facial impact. That said, this razor would definitely benefit from a sharper blade and I'm looking forward to giving it a go with the Feather.

The Super 84 was another story. My process with adjustable is to start with an ATG pass with a neutral or slightly positive exposure. Then I take a second pass going between ATG and XTG at a moderate exposure (to get to a DFS+/BBS- face). Finally, I go after stragglers with an aggressive exposure. I did that here and was rewarded with a BBS shave (settings of "4", "6" and "8"), with not much facial impact. The 7'Oclock Black was an excellent blade for that razor.

Shave #1 - Feather

This was my first shave with a Feather and it was not a great session. I used it with a Black Tip Superspeed marrying sharp with mild and being very attentive and cognizant to avoid applying pressure.

I went 2 passes and finished with a decent outcome but I was too tense to enjoy the session. Also I had a lingering burn after applying aftershave and my face definitely feels raw right now. Maybe I did press too hard despite it being at the forefront of my thoughts.

“I am a well overdue couch potato”
I didn't post my 7 O'clock SP shaves, but did manage to shave with the blade 5 times over the last 2 weeks.

I found that the second shave was better than the first and by the 4th and 5th shaves I was getting a BBS with little to no alum feedback. I wasn't a huge fan of this blade a few years ago, but it has definitely moved up on the rankings for me.

Rating the blades used so far:
1 - Wizamet SI / Nacet
3 - 7 O'clock SP
4 - Permasharp
5 - Bic CP

I fancied a repeat shave from yesterday and it was great!

I thought the blades were gone and needed to be replaced, but based on today I will give them another go.
