B&B's Blade Bonanza - 2025 - Top-Tier Blades Edition

I bought 100 7 O'clock blades when I first started using DE razors in August of 2022. I used a few of them.... then moved on...

So when I loaded one up in my TiThena hybrid, I wasn't expecting much.... but I was a bit surprised.... This blade is quite good for me.... It felt hmmmmm the word that came to mind when I was shaving was "substantial"... @helicopter has measured the blade thickness, I'm sure.... but it felt like there was less flex... The Lambda razors have excellent clamping, no matter the blade...

All that to say, I had a stellar shave... All the usual suspects were used... I did select the Baume.be cream as I was doing a morning shave after a marginal night's sleep.....I'd like to place an order for Boris' and Mark's unscented cream.. <eg>
These are 95 microns. That's pretty good objective impressions Kim. Alex made similar observations about another 95 micron blade last year, so he's got the special abilities too.

7 O'clock did decent enough , tugged a little on the usual spot but got the job done.

Love the old blade tucks. When I first got into shaving people called these 'Ninjas' because of the black tucks. Everyone went back and forth about if these were better than the old blue labeled 7OC SP from Russia.

I wish I had stocked up on both back then. The blues are gone, and the prices on the blacks skyrocketed.

Got mine from a seller in India around the same time i bought the owners club in the pic. quite a good deal iirc.

New toy came in yesterday, and I made a little change to the program. I swapped out the SB Blackbird for the newly arrived Osprey:

IMG_6688.jpeg

The Tedalus shaved...like the Tedalus. You can pretty much put a flat rock in it and get a decent shave. Today, I decided to press my luck with it and the black ninja did not disappoint. At the end of the first pass, I had a solid DFS+ left side of my face. A bit of touch up and it was BBS. A couple of additional swipes and the left side of my face was stubble free.

What surprised me was how well the Osprey kept up given that I'd never used one before. I did a first pass at a setting of "2" and, like with the Tedalus, that side of my face ended up at DFS+. I amped the razor up to a "4", and that side of my face quickly went to BBS-. I bumped it up to "6" and better still. At the end of the shave, the Tedalus side was closer, but not by much. Kudos Shane @Blackland Razors. The design, aestetics, polishing, balance and clamping are all superb (though the dial is tough to turn, mis-shave)

The Ninja was an outstanding blade for both razors

Shave #4 - Gillette 7 o'clock Super Platinum
Lord L6
Proraso Red

An OK shave this morning. More cleanup needed than I expected. Does this blade decline quickly or is the L6 the culprit?

After 4 shaves, I'm not feeling it. I do not hate the blade, far from it actually. I was just expecting more based on the blade's reputation and relative pricing. I understand these used to be dirt cheap. I paid about 30 cents per blade for mine which is double what I pay for GSB and Perma-Sharp and nearly 4x what I do for Nacets.

I think the 7OC liked the slant. Far less buffing today to get to BBS than yesterday.

For me, these blades seem to equal the best of the others we've used, but @cranewarrior has pointed out an issue. These blades are currently $30ish/100, and at that price they need to be clearly superior to other blades for me to want to invest in a lot of them. Luckily, I caught mine a few years ago and got them for $17/100 so those should tide me for a while.

So good blades, but maybe not great value?

Gillette 7 o'clock Super Platinum blade 1, shave 1&2

Two shaves in with the black 7 o'clock Super Platinum blade. Lovely smoothness and very decent sharpness. Though assumingly a bit milder than the Perma-Sharp this blade is very enjoyable and a good match for my face.

Cheers!

I believe that @cranewarrior mentioned that the 7 o'clock super platinum blade wasn't as sharp on his last shave. I read that and shaved afterward and came to the same conclusion. I also think it's a good blade, but I was expecting more from it.

I will be moving to my Gillette Tech with a fresh blade tonight.

I shaved a fortune
I just had a stellar shave with the 7 O'clock "black ninja" a few minutes ago... I followed @JAHE 's lead and used my Yaqi Ghost 0.90. I'm not as familiar with this razor as it's a fairly recent addition. I only mention that because had I used this razor with the Black Ninja first, I doubt I would have noticed the difference in blade thickness..... I'm extremely familiar with the Lambda Athena variations, including the TiThena hybrid I used last shave.... I don't know if that's the reason or that the TiThena presents the blade in a unique way that made the thicker b;ade apparent....

Either way, the Ghost 0.90 with a Ti Crown handle was excellent.... I did get a bit over confident, however, and nicked my lower lip as I was shaving around that area..... It was totally my fault as I was shaving quickly with overlapping short strokes and didn't pay attention to where the blade was as I shifted directions.... Liquid styptic took care of it after a couple dabs.... That's the most I've used it in months.... I forgot the lesson from one of the shave masters here: @Cal : Always wear your white belt....

I went back to Boris' BBS #1 unscented... I'm pretty much switching between his soap and Mark's Natural 1.... They are both so good...If anyone bought one of their soaps, I think they'd immediately put them at the top tier status... I can't say anything about their scents, obviously... as I only use unscented soaps... and scent preferences are totally subjective...

I have been using Stirling pre-shave instead of the PAA Cube for a while now.... It doesn't lather quite as well...... but it seems to to its job as well as the Cube 2.0.

On a side note: If you are interested in the way Boris and Mark have been developing their own soaps, their journals are both worthy of your time. I'm posting their most current postings, but you can look at their previous posts... not too many pages back in each"

Shave #5 - Gillette 7 o'clock Super Platinum
RR Game Changer .76
Unknown puck with a dab of Proraso Green

It's the end of the line for this blade. Next shave I will open a fresh one. Pretty decent shaves, but the last 3 were indeed declining in effectiveness and feel. I guess the sputtered coating came off quickly?

I like the blade but wish its good feel lasted a bit longer. I'm interested if I experience the same with the new blade.

Today's Bonanza shave was with a Tatara Nodamune and a Timeless OC68. I really like both razors, though I prefer the comb of the Timeless. With the Black Ninja loaded into each, I got a smooth and painless DFS+ shave on both sides. While the 7'oclock Black is not the best fit for these mild razors (which seem to call for a sharper blade), I had no complaints.

BBS-

I've misplaced my Slim ( two house moves in 6 months ) so I put the 7OC in my Baili and cranked the aggression up to about 75% because I wanted to see what this blade would do.

Results: Fairly easy BBS with no drama. I'm not sure this has been the sharpest blade we've tested, but it has been a nice mixture of "sharp enough to be efficient" and "very smooth" for me.

I may crank the Baili to 100% tomorrow and see what that does for me.

7 O'clock Black shave #4
I was going to wait and start a new blade in a different razor, but decided to move blade #1 to my GC 76. Honestly, I don't detect any significant drop-off in performance yet. I did get one tiny weeper on my chin which is rare. Overall still extremely happy- this blade and my face are getting along well. I wanted a 'slap in the face' refreshing experience as our humidity is currently at 79%, and boy did the CO Bigelow/Skin Bracer deliver!
