Arko usage

Well I finished up my puck of Arko, I made the purchase back in October, and listed below are the dates of when I used the soap. As you can see I took some brief time off here and there, but overall I got about 25 shaves out of a puck. Today I'm going to get a puck of Williams and do the same thing on my spread sheet, and this way we can compare the results and see how many fewer or more shaves I get out of a puck of Williams.

I don't use an ARKO puck. I use an ARKO stick and face lather. A 75g stick lasts me about 150 shaves, so about 0.5g per shave.

For me it is not so much the cost but rather the ready availablity that is my problem with ARKO.

Fully enjoy my Arko stick!
I've used it over a dozen times and still more than 75% remains!

@andromeda673 do you know which brushes you used for the ARKO lathers?

If you could use the same brushes the same number of times it would make your cool undertaking “science like”.

Have fun

For many summers Arko shave stick was my official summer vacation shave soap. It saw many state parks in Vermont and always made thick, easy lather that made for wonderful shaves.

In a conversation with someone last year, I realized that I had finished over 12 Arko sticks since 2008. With the exception of Tabac and MWF, Arko is my most used shave soap.

thank you for all of the feedback, I have extremely hard water where I live in my new apartment, and to be honest, this test is somewhat flawed because I used it at my grandma's house 20 miles away and she also is on city water, but a different city.

And with the brush, yes I used my Simpson T1 for every shave.......I have been using that brush exclusively now for over a year since I got it. I do dabble with my PAA Green Ray from time to time, but for this test per say I used my Simpson T1 synthetic.

Is the tub that much softer, is your badger sooooo hungry or do you do a whole body shave?

A stick of arko lasts me approx half an inch for 20 3 pass (beard) shaves.

I bought a puck of arko, not the stick, I don't use a badger brush, the Simpson T1 is a synthetic, and no I'm not a full body shave guy. I do a four pass shave but that's what most here do.

I start my experiment with Williams today, so we will see what the usage looks like compared to Arko.

I was never really happy with my shaves using Arko until I started really loading a lot of soap and using much less water in my mix. Instead of using Arko like a stick, I usually squish a stick into a bowl and load my brush from that. Now, my shaves with Arko have rivaled my best shaves ever. Unfortunately, that also means my shaves per stick have dropped substantially. I'd say I'm getting about 20-25 shaves from a stick, now.

I would dare say that you are not a SR shaver.

Actually, I've been shaving with a Shavette somewhat frequently. Based on many of the comments I've read here on the forums, I like the lather for my Shavette shaves much different than most. I like that lather especially thick and cushiony, as opposed to wet with a lot of surface water in the lather. In fact, I discovered that preference somewhat recently while I was using my Shavette.

Wow, you must use a lot of soap per shave. I have only used the Arko sticks and never counted the number of shaves per stick but it was well over 60 shaves. If loading that heavy works for you then drive on, I'm just glad you hear you enjoyed Arko!

my two favorite scents in shaving are Williams and Arko, I kid you not, also I'm a sucker for Polo Green which is my all time favorite scent, but due to it being so scarice and hard to find, I have to rely on soap makers to make a clone of it,.

Williams and Arko are my go to, I always have a puck of one or the other in my soap bowl. ALWAYS
