Are You a Closet Collector?

Nice collections! I guess i fell into it. Must have been fate. I bought an ej89, feathers, and used proraso for about 5 years. And and Omega syntex brush. Bleh. Then i found out a coworker that had RAD. He led me to a 50s superspeed in the wild back in October. Now i have 15 various Gillettes in my den with three on the way. Im eyeballing soaps and brushes now. I have one maggards synthetic and two ever-readys with original knots that are in my rotation. 3 that im going to try my hand at restoring.

All the razors look alike to my wife and kids. They have not figured it out yet. I use the same Merkur case when I have the razor in the terl. However my small shelf in the hall closet is getting more packed with 100 Ct sleeves of razor blades and razors. Razor and blades pack rat syndrome? Yep

Not really a closet collector but have a built in open storage in out MB closet, keep what is open and in curerent rotation on the top and what is new and unopened in the middle and the bottom is just odds/ends and keep razors out in the open on a shelf

I'm lucky I get to display my vintage Matchbox car collection. No way will the Mrs let me keep razors out. Unless I do a retro terl reno?

I am definitely a collector...no doubt about it. I have some items on display and the rest are in tote boxes in, you guessed it, the closet.

Oddly enough, I have seven (maybe eight, might be missing one) brushes and a similar number of razors, yet I wouldn't say that I am a collector. I use them all on a regular rotation, and I feel that I am just an enthusiastic shaver.

My wife's ok with my obsession as long as I keep the bills paid. That's why I only buy my razors in the wild and everything else I buy locally also. I used to keep everything in drawers until I bought a display. My wife was a little surprised when she first saw everything out in the open but she was still ok with it. That was about a year ago and I quickly out grew the display, so everything went back in the drawers until I can reorganize. Below is a picture of most of my razors. All of my soaps, aftershaves, and brushes are in other drawers, I have a whole dresser dedicated to them. Some might say I'm a hoarder but I have very few duplicates and I try to use everything I have, even the Double Ring. So I guess you might say, right now, I'm a closet collector/user/enthusiast. My wife just bought me a new display, so hopefully I'll have them out in the open again soon.

There are some amazing collections posted, @Mlee....simply wow

As for me, am I in the closet with my (relatively new) hobby? Hells no....
I’m here, I’m gonna shear and proud of it

The sig other and I have kind of a different relationship. Both previously married that didn’t end well for either, neither of us ever want to tie the knot again, we live together in the sense we’re always sleeping in the same house, just that some nights it her house and some nights it’s mine. We share everything that goes on in our respective lives but don’t have any joint finances. Whether it’s this or any other hobby if asked I tell her what I’ve paid for something and that’s reciprocal for her. Thankfully we’ve both done well in our careers and neither have kids so no guilt that we’re spending junior’s college fund when we enjoy our respective hobbies.

Till now most of my razor collection has been contemporary but have a few vintage pieces and working on more. One of the challenges I have with that is a lot. Of eBay sellers won’t ship to Canada, but have a few workarounds, just ends up taking a lot longer for something to get to me. I need find some more local sources be it flea markets, garage sales, etc. Problem is, and this is just part of my personality and doesn’t jive with acquiring anything “vintage”, is I don’t have much patience to wait.
