About Brushes and Knots

Hello, just a quick question out of ignorance. I can basically source my purchases from china these days. I have seen the Yaqis and acquired a couple. I have also seen companies selling the handle apart from the knot. Many of the Boti have a thread, I guess you just thread it in. For those that do not have a thread do they have to be glued or applied with pression only?

Thank you!

I don't know what you mean by "thread it in".

All knots have to be set with epoxy or similar adhesive, into the handle.

They are all just knots you are looking at. Glued at the base. Some have the strings still from being tied. That is all

Sorry, screw the knot to the handle like this one in the picture

Ahhh. I've never heard of Boti or seen that as an option.

It's a neat idea. But as stated above from @LJS that is the exemption to how knots are put into handles.

No clue on the quality of those knots.

For what it's worth, I've seen threaded knots like that in a couple of other places. For example, Mühle has also been offering brushes with threaded knots like that I believe, at least with some of their lines.

Is it swell time?
Glue is certainly a way to set knots. Another way would be to use silicone. That way you have the ability to reuse the handle if you want a different knot. Threaded knots like the Boti and Mühle knots are rare and usually only fit their own handles. Another way to set a knot is to use a ferrule before inserting it into the handle. That also assists in preserving the handle and making the knot a bit more interchangeable as the knot is tied to the ferrule rather than the handle.
