Brotherhood of Unscented Gentlemen Shavers

that’s funny, For my nose, N&S smells like nothing, while Sheep as a sheepish smell (which I don’t mind by the way). Performance of the Sheep is better for me than the N&S, but not by much.
It's weird, N&S smelled like nothing at first, but after a couple weeks, it was mildly barn...ish. UWB started neutral, and still is 5 months later. I can't imagine the small amount of lanolin replaced with beeswax making a noticeable difference, so maybe it's something else. Maybe the beeswax smell and tallow cancel each other out.

Given everything I've read about Sheep I don't think I'd enjoy the smell or the lanolin itch much 😅

Last night’s head shave with Henri et Victoria Unscented. This soap is a great performer but irritates my face. One day I discovered that I could use it for head shaves with no problems, and it’s become my go-to soap for my head.

Bartigan & Stark Nil unscented balm post. It has a bit of an almost candy-like scent, but it disappears quickly.

Stirling Unscented...
1. ...Pre-shave Soap
2. ...Pre-shave Oil
3. ...with Beeswax Shave Soap
4. ...Post-shave Balm

I really like Unscented w/Beeswax, not that Naked and Smooth is bad (it taught me I have a lanolin sensitivity, lol) but N&S kind of smells like a barn to me, while UWB smells like absolutely nothing.View attachment 1854896

It must have nearly killed the folks at Stirling to release unscented, of which I think they offer two. Most of their soaps seem like an intern at Axe came up with the scent profile as far as INTENSITY goes. Some are nice but they were so overpowering to me my sample pack went to the landfill.

Three unscented shave soaps, actually.

Yeah, the only scented Stirling product I use is bath soap, but I wish they offered more mild scents, or at least denoted which scents are milder than others. Duke is alright. Or maybe I just got an old bar. Buying from resellers may be an advantage here 😅

How did you find out about the lanolin sensitivity? I don’t find it turns my skin red or anything, or burns…but I suspect it might give me more pimples…like it makes me “break out”. But that could honestly just be stress 😂

Btw, has anyone gotten a chance to get Canada off Amazon lately?

It wasn't that obvious for me, either. I didn't notice until I had maybe a dozen shaves with Naked and Smooth and I was doing a practice lather and paint, and without the distractions of actually shaving, I noticed a mild irritation after a minute or two with the lather sitting on my face. Not a burn, itch, sting, just a feeling of mild discomfort. It was the same sensation I got from Carmex, a lanolin-containing lip balm I had been using for decades. I repeated the test with Unscented with Beeswax and no irritation at all. Moved away from all other lanolin containing products, and am happier for it.

As for acne, I'm not sure. I would say UWB should be slightly better than other Stirling formulas as I and most others find it to be less of a "butter bomb" than them, but the other ingredients are mostly oils and animal fat, so something like Canadian might suit you better.

Back when I was concerned with breakouts I followed shaving advice from a website called acne.org that recommended daily wet shaving with a mild razor and Dove Sensitive Skin beauty bar for washing and lubrication and literally nothing else. I'm not saying I recommend it, but I'm not *not* saying I recommend it, either 😅

Oooh, think I found a new club!

About 5 years ago, I switched to being an unscented soap user/wet shaver. I was finding it harder and harder to find soaps and creams that didn’t light my face up like a Christmas Tree. At first, it was bitter sweet as I absolutely adored some scents that I had, but wasn’t able to use them because of the intense burning some gave me.

As of now, I’ve been mainly using Stirling’s Sheep and Naked & Smooth with amazing results and zero burn. I’ve tried a few other unscented options like Noble Otter, but nothing seems to compare to Stirling’s Sheep for me. Although, I have been reading wonderful things regarding Stirling’s Unscented with Beeswax. Hoping to give that a try after I finish my next tub of soap.

I’ve been using Naked & Smooth lately but I tried the Unscented with Beeswax tonight and it’s better for me. Honestly Naked & Smooth gives me a very slight sensation whereas the UWB doesn’t. Go figure. I might have a lanolin sensitivity as well. But the lather imo was better and easier to build.

Top notch soap! It’s up there with MdC Nature to me. I know it isn’t unscented but I absolutely love Proraso Green also.

MdC Nature, Proraso Green and Stirling UWB is my trifecta.

Tonight’s shave with two unscented Canadian products. MacDuff’s is my top performing soap and I’ve really been enjoying the Bartigan & Stark balm. It sat on my shelf forgotten about and overlooked for a long time, then when I brought it out again I remembered how great it was.

This was a beauty shave with the perfect lather and edge, but marked the end of an era. The soap and balm are both finished. I squeezed every last drop and they both gave out in the same shave.
