Lapping film surface structure

Here's the surfaces of 5um, 3um, and 1um aluminum oxide lapping film.

Followed by a pic of the surface of my DMT1200

for the sake of a more direct comparrison, I repost these pics of the finish it leaves, same progresssion 5um, 3um, 1um, and the finish off of my well broken in DMT1200:

It really looks like the 1200 compares more with the 3micron film than the 5 (can't imagine the 9). Any ideas why that would be, or do you disagree? (1200dmt is supposedly made with 9micron diamond particles.)

Probably because I've honed the beejeebers out of that hone, re-setting bevels, etc, etc. Maybe that's why I can get a nice HHT off of it? Still cuts nice and fast as well though...


EDIT: P.S- C'Mon Slice, let's see some of your pics...we both know you've got the cam!

Working on it. 100's are no problem but it's a cheap toy microscope, so the 400's look pretty bad next to yours.

This is the best I've gotten so far. That's at 400x. 100x pics are no problem.
