Barbershop shave quality?

After commenting in this thread I am just curious about something.

For those of you that have had a barbershop shave, how does it compare shave wise to your usual shave?

I just feel that there is almost no way a barber can give me a better shave than I can give myself. I know my grain, quirky spots, irritation area etc. I haven't had the pleasure of getting the barbershop shave yet.

What have your experiences been like? Of course the whole experience would be awesome but the shave itself?

I've heard of guys who get BBS shaves with a straight that last for 2 days etc so I am just curious, does using a straight automatically give closer shaves than just a regular razor? Of course I understand that it has to be honed, stropped etc properly.

It depends.

I've had pretty mediocre barber shaves and I've had great ones. Luckily, where I live I have access to a great barber where I can get a haircut and a straight shave for 25 bucks and it's a good shave.

Your results may vary - but it's worth giving it a shot.
