Hi guys
I have just started DE wet shaving (about a month) and have been learning and experimenting to see what works. Of course, the primary reason to switch was the cost of cartridge shaving and the fact that I could not ever get a close and comfortable shave with it.
I have started with a Gillette Sterling Razor (read that it was a mild razor, so good for a beginner). It came with a pack of 7 O' Clock blacks, which are really good. Sharp and smooth, I get around 4 comfortable shaves from each blade. Of course, being a cheapskate, I am searching for even cheaper blades to try.
Unfortunately, Feather's or other blades are not really available here, and if they are sold, they are too expensive (think more than the cost of a Mach 3 cartridge). So in and around my area the blades I have found have been
1. 7 O'Clock Black Super Platinums (Rs. 10 per blade)
2. 7 O'Clock Green Permasharps (Rs. 4 per blade)
3. Gillette Wilkinson Swords (Rs. 2.4 per blade)
4. Some Local Brand (Can't remember... Maroon and Gold packaging) (Rs. 3 per blade)
5. Vijay/Topaz Platinum Blades (Rs. 2 per blade)
In addition to the 7 O' Clock Blacks, I have tried the Greens and the Wilkinson Swords. I was skeptical about the local brand, and after reading the not-so-favourable reviews of the Vijay and Topaz Blades, am skeptical to try them as well.
My findings:
1. The Permasharps (Green) were not really smooth. I ended up with bumps and some razor burn the two times I tried shaving with them.
2. The Wilkinson Swords were better. Still not as smooth as the 7 O'Clock Blacks, but Pretty decent. I would not mind shaving with them. But the local stores seem to have a limited stock.
Any recommendations of other Indian manufactured blades I can try? I might have to travel a bit more around my city to find them, but that's ok. Or should I give the Permasharps another go? I know my technique is still in its infancy so maybe a bit more practice would make them ok to use?
Mind you, I can use the Blacks for my daily shave and I love them. Just that I would like to find something cheaper.
