Weird watch mechanism

Space_Cadet

I don't have a funny description.
I got a new watch (NOS), and when I tried to set the right time, the handles started moving in the wrong direction - against the clock's movement. Is this normal?

If you mean you could set the time forwards or backwards, then yes, absolutely normal. It's not recommend to set the time backwards, however, as this causes more wear on the internals.

If you mean the watch started running backwards, well, I think that one should be self-explanatory.

Hands can move back and forth when setting the time, if that's what you mean. No harm to the watch, although I try to move hands clockwise when setting the time.

Yes, that's what I mean. But in order to move the hands clockwise when setting the time, I have to turn the knob towards me. Isn't that a bit strange?

You are turning the watch stem counter clockwise to make the hands move clockwise? That does seem odd to me. Is this an automatic or quartz movement?
