L'Occitane Plisson Brush may be a limited edition

It's called capitalism. What this country is based on. Don't hate for taking advantage of an opportunity to buy low and sell high.

I don't hate what you did, I do have an issue with your lack of contribution to this thread!

Your post didn't help anyone who might be interested in grabbing the last 2 brushes that you judged as not having the right "market desirability", your post didn't mention if you spoke to staff about the brush being limited, hell, you didn't even say if you liked the damn brush!

I think you're confused... BadgerAndBlade.com is for guys who like shaving. If you want to brag about your latest business model save that for ImDesperateToBeOnTheApprentice.com

Ahh, but you live in socialist Europe

I'm not a fan of hoarding, with the sole purpose of selling later for a better price, either. And I think it's not in the best of B&B spirit to do so. Nothing wrong with regaining your costs, but would you want to make money on your fellow community members?

I've been guilty of buying more of scarce / last remaining goods than I need as well :wink2: but not with the purpose of reselling later at a higher price point.

The loose handle brushes look interesting; very easy to install them in a better quality resin handle. Anyone who fitted a CADE knot in a WD handle, for instance?

I'd like to reinstall the "The Grooming Company" knot (same fibers) in a better handle, but it does not pull loose easily. And I don't dislike the current handle enough to destroy it.

I agree, "America Get your Billions back" I think not...calling it capitalism and snagging 3...yeah I consider it poor taste as well. I did not like mine but returned it to store instead of trying to gouge someone on Ebay.

Interesting, it seems that they removed the brush from the website due to quality issues and they do not know if they will be back. I wonder if they keep popping up from time to time because they find a small stash in a warehouse or something and just want to get rid of them.

Strange they admit to quality issues but will sell them in stores. My wife bought mine in the store and I've been using it for some time. No issues for me yet. It is much less.... agressive? Strong? I don't know how to put it. It lathers up enough for three passes pretty quick and feels nice. I keep a cheapo perfecto brand badger for.times I want more aggressiveness.

I wonder if the quality issues are only with the newer ones that say "Plisson for L'Occitane" as opposed to the ones that say "Plisson".

Took my personal L'Occitane-Plisson brush and took the knot out. Then I removed the metal sleeve/cup and re-set the knot at a loft of 50 mm in one of my handles. This is now what I call a usable shaving brush for face lather. It is not longer so floppy and the wet mop feel is gone as well.
Went to the local store and was told that all the brushes are gone and they will not replace them. They told me that I could try to find one online or buy them from Pisson directly. They are all sold out online, too.

Another L'Occitane store in your area might still have it. Call them all and find out!

Putting another handle can really change tha game. Unfortunatelly, I'm not as handy as you and cannot do it myself. Instead, I returned my brushe to the store.

I suspect that L'Occitane stopped selling these in response to the poor word of mouth comments from customers whose brush knots separated from the handles. My feeling is that the knot is so superior that they are definitely worth salvaging. The fix seems simple, some cleanup and new adhesive to glue the knot back into a replacement handle or the original. The original wood handles appear to require better sealant and/or waterproofing. If the wood has swollen a bit some gap filler like polyurethane foam ought to fix it. For whatever reason the only complaints seem to be regarding the wood handles on these L'Occitane Plisson brushes. The Plisson web site shows many other synthetic brushes using the same #12 (22mm) knot with more standard resin handles for about $20 more than the L'Occitane brushes. I'll be ordering one of these from Plisson later this week. I'm thinking about the Ferrari red. $59 and change.

Rudy, glad to hear that you managed to take the knot out of the tin cup without damaging it. Now if you could only do that to mine, I might keep it. [emoji2]

For those of us in the US, the exchange rate is very favorable now!

Any idea how much they charge for shipping? My guess is that would add another $15 or so.

OK, I just checked. Shipping is 24 EUR, but I think they deduct taxes, so the brush ends up being 67.33 EUR, or about $76. Steep, but if I can be sure it won't have the same quality issues as the L'Occitane one, then I would be very tempted. Oh, and there's another couple of bucks the credit card will charge me for the foreign transaction!

24 euros for shipping? Do they wrap it in gold or so? I'd expect no more than 12 to 15 euros for shipping across the ocean (still expensive).

It depends on how the postal system works. From the US, when sending things to India, even a tiny box can cost > $60 because the only options are International Priority and Express Mail. Sending just a letter (no goods, or at least goods that won't fit in a regular Priority Mail envelope) by International Priority costs > $30 to India.

Priority small flat rate box is $24.75 to India and includes tracking. $23.50 if you buy postage online. That $60 is enough to send a medium flat rate to India.

I think I'm getting fleeced by my local post office, then.

This page:

says Priority Mail International starts at 29.25, and my guess is that's for the letter. IIRC, the next thing up was a fairly large box which was going to cost more than $60. Incidentally, I was trying to send a shaving brush to my dad and I ended up backing off because I felt I would be paying the cost of the brush in added shipping charges.

OK, as suspected there is no tax on this purchase. I just placed an order for the resin handled Ferrari Red #12 Plisson brush. There is no tax since the original $59+ price reflects French VAT (value added tax) Shipping and handling were a bit spendy $27.36 USD but that only amounts to the original quoted price of $59 + another $17 for shipping. I am not going to complain about that since lots of U.S. companies charge as much or more for FedEx or UPS shipping.

Ok....I have the Plisson...soft, splays well, good lathering power. Also have the 21mm EJ synth. Takes a bit more work, doesn't splay as well, but far less floppy.

Would I be better off with the EJ 23mm?
