Power clean alternative

So I've started into the Starting Strength program again, but I have shin splints right now that are possible stress fractures, I have a bone scan scheduled for tomorrow. With the injury I don't think it's a good idea to do power cleans, can y'all recommend an alternative lift for the time being? I've been doing deadlifts instead.

Thanks!

Visit the Starting Strength website and look for a user called "Brian Broke Legs" (think he now goes by "Brian Jones"). He had severe injuries to both legs and used the Starting Strength program as part of his rehab. I believe that he started out on deadlifts exclusively, then worked in barbell rows on alternating days. Rows aren't a substitute for power cleans as they don't work the same bodily functions, but can be workable in the face of injury. There are quite a number of threads on that board about power clean substitutions.

Thanks! I also saw in the Practical Programming Novice Program alternating chins/pull-ups are used.
