The EDC picture thread

I think I'm going to have to get myself a Spyderco at some point.

They're very light and come with a great edge on them. I'm considering it, I have an SOG Flash II, but its pretty big and bulky. Though I do have a Benchmade that's not getting any use.....

When I saw this thread, I thought it's gonna be full of nutty guys like on Youtube pulling full survival arsenals out of their pants! :biggrin1:

I didn't think I'd fall into the EDC category but judging by you guys, I do. Unfortunately its near impossible to get a CCW where I live. Supposedly one of the criteria is, have you had at least 3 attempts on your life. Thought that was a little ridiculous! You guys that do have them, obviously other states, how easy/difficult was it to acquire?

I don't have a pic, I can add one later. But my EDC is:

Keys
iPhone 4
Fossil Leather Wallet
Buck Rush Assisted Open Knife
Xeno E03 Flashlight

Where did you get the scales? Just curious, my spearpoint would look great with something like that.
I made the scales. There's aftermarket scales for a couple of Benchmades, but I don't think anyone makes them for the 707 or any of the thinner Benchmades over concern of the possibility of breaking over the spring recess. The lignum vitae is tough as nails and survived testing on test pieces prior to making the scales. They were not pleasant to make. I had to use an end mill to make the recess, and I made stainless steel inserts to support the stress from the screws on the back end of the handle or they would have cracked through the wood when tightening them down since the scales are very thin to maintain the profile of the original aluminum scales.

Didn't realize CA was that difficult. I thought NY was the only bad one. At least there's a chance. But 3 attempts on your life. I mean, what the heck...you have to be lucky three times? What if you only made it to 2? That's odd. In my state you're required to take an 8 hour class, pass a written test and shooting test. Of course, clean background, etc.

Yea Rick, its definitely a WTH kinda thing. Of course, the 3 attempts thing was what I was told by someone who tried for one, so you never know. I did look it up today for my county, to see what it really was and compare with what you said. This is what it said:

"Applicants must be able to demonstrate that good cause exists for the issuance of a CCW permit. Good cause is defined as:
Convincing evidence of a clear and present danger to life, or of great bodily harm to the applicant, his/her spouse, or dependent child, which cannot be adequately dealt with by existing law enforcement resources, and which danger cannot be reasonably avoided by alternative measures, and which danger would be significantly mitigated by the applicant's carrying of a concealed firearm.

What You Will Need to Do
  1. Complete the CCW Application
  2. Call the Sheriff's CCW Unit to schedule an interview. The interview will determine your need and good cause for the issuance of a CCW permit. You must bring the following to your interview:
    • Completed CCW license application and CCW interview worksheet.
    • Copy of your birth certificate and/or naturalization papers.
    • Copy of your California driver’s license.
    • Copies of two of your most recent utility bills or any other sufficient proof of full-time residency within the County of Riverside as indicated on your application.
    • Three letters of character reference (originals). Letters must contain the writer’s name, address, and phone number where they can be reached during business hours. In the body of the letter the writer should state that he or she is aware the applicant is applying for a CCW permit with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department. Letters from family members or employers are not acceptable.
    • Copy of military discharge DD214 form, if applicable.
    • Two recent passport photos.
  3. If you are successful with your initial interview, you will be instructed to
    • Get fingerprinted by Live Scan Fingerprint Services
    • Qualify with your weapon(s)
    • Complete the state-mandated firearms safety course"

There are also fees involved. Its $20 non refundable just for the application process. If you're approved its $95 for the 2yr. permit. Then its $80 more to be actually issued the permit. I didnt check renewal fees.

Sounds like some of you guys have it pretty easy compared!

I would talk with some instructors of the state mandated course. Ask them of the reality/ chances of getting one where you are. They'll be able to help.

My usual EDC plus/minus an item or two:

Leather wallet
Keys
Leatherman Micra
Fenix LD 15 light
Spyderco Delica knife
iPhone (not pictured)
Handkerchief
Cross pen
Index cards (quick notes)
Citizen Eco-Drive Nighthawk

How do you like that Nighthawk? I have been considering getting a Skyhawk for a while.

which holster is that?

That's a Tommy Theis IWB horsehide. I like it!

And it's holding my Glock 19, which I like very much, though it's a tad big for my 5'11" 170lb frame to conceal...

(the Glock might look a bit different since it has the RTF/rough textured finish grips, and "fish gill" slide on it)

Very cool! Yea, that's exactly what threw me Brandon, the slide and grip. I have a G23 and I knew it looked familiar... But I haven't seen those variations before

Wow. I was gonna post a picture, but I guess I should start carrying a knife first. Time to dig through the drawers. Typical for me is Phone (LG Optimus G), Keys (way to many, just pared down to only necessaries), Pen (Preppy, Touchdown, or Estie), and Wallet (Brown Leather Fossil, tall bi-fold). Usually a little bit of change for a snack.

My usual load, no guns as I work in a public school district, but Iowa is wicked easy to get your Conceal Carry Permit. I see groupon's and living social deals for them ALL the time for the classes.

CRKT knife
HuMn Aircraft grade Aluminum wallet (blocks RFID)
Black Sharpie
Nylon probe tool
2 x 16gb flash drives
work keys
home keys
iPhone 5
Gym key fob

And just for funsies All the Crap I carry in my School Timbuk2 bag... Those lock picks get used more than I'd like to admit.
