Grafco Psycho Razor, Open comb

Well I recently acquired this little gem from the bay. It was a BIN auction and I just had to have it...maybe I over paid, maybe not....either way it doesnt matter because I have it now and got a nice treat to boot. The original picture had showed the usual close comb model that I've seen before, but when the razor arrived low and behold....it was an open comb model. Normally a guy might be upset about not receiving the correct razor, however I am even more pleased with this.

The box may or may not be correct either. The gentleman apologized for the mixup, which was unnecessary since I was completely happy, and stated he had two closed ones and two open ones and just used a single set of pictures for the auctions. The other open comb he gave to a friend. The boxes had the same part number which is weird.

Interesting. I've heard of these but have not seen one before that I recall. Any idea how old it is?

That Im not too sure of so far. I think most have assumed these were actually produced by Merkur as grafco was just a large importer. I have seen a few closed comb models but never knew there was an open comb model. The razor is built extremely well, the inmate would have been lucky to have such a nice razor to shave with. Maybe someone will come along with a guess on the age.

Just in time for open comb March. It certainly will make. Good conversation piece if not a great razor.

From the address on the box, it looks like it's pre-ZIPcode. Zipcodes came in during '63. ...and it looks like it's marked GERMANY.

Correct, its manufactured in Germany and imported by grafco.

Cool! It was so hard for me to not bite on that one.
