Question about balm

This is a stupid question, but I'm new to aftershaves and can't find the answer. When applying an aftershave balm, is it better to rub it on the skin more or less? I mean, do you only need to cover the shaven areas with it and it will work or do you need to rub it in a little? Sorry for the stupid questions. Thanks!

Don't worry about it, it's not a stupid question.

I would cover the shaved area. I would not rub it in or if I do, very lightly.

I use my entire hand to rub it in a downward motion until any excess is no longer evident in my hands. For example, if I apply a quarter size to my cheek and I can have enough to where I can just lightly rum my palm down my face and I have enough for jawline, then great. If there's not enough, then I leave that application.

I usually apply nickel sized drops to:
-Left cheek
-Right Cheek
-Mustache/Chin
-Left neck
-Right neck

That does me good.
