I dunno. Looks like there might be a little more just below the second "O" in Proraso...

Nah, there's nothing left in that tube, don't worry. :tongue_sm
Good work on that tube. It looks like you may have used one of the metal Tube Keys, which are fantastic for squeezing out every last bit of soap.
Actually, I started off using a tube key, but then I just used the old folding technique. When the tube was almost empty I unrolled the tube back and smoothed it out with a comb.

I got great results with RazoRock Classic. If you want to get more protection out of it, try loading more product and using slightly less water or a slightly lower water to soap ratio. Make sure to work the lather thoroughly and you should end up with a pretty protective lather/paste.

I followed your recommendation this morning and it was much better. I loaded a fairly dry brush for 1 minute and didn't have to add any drop of water to the lather. Thank you!

I am at about the same point with the Wilkinson blue bowl. But, since this is the 3017 thread, I will use it up.

I will use it up too! So far 11 shaves and counting

Still plowing thru the TOBS purple haze. Was sure I'd have it gone by Thanksgiving but I'm starting to wonder. I should take the SOC boar to it again and just mop it up all at once.

Trying to decide on this winters line up. I have a new brick of cella (gifted to me) that I was thinking of 3017'ing but some of you talked me out of it. Thank you. My ADD would have givin me fits. I love Cella, one of my favorites, but a guy needs some variety. In the sprirt of the season I picked up a handful of Grundtal stainless steel containers from the local Ikea store and am going to stuff them with Cella and PIF them. I'll post a fresh thread in the general forum shortly after Thanksgiving. Its the best way I could think of to get rid of the brick. It keeps calling to me but I just dont have the stamina right now to take it on. So with the Cella out of the way I am thinking up next will be Mikes R&C, followed around the first of the year with a fresh puck of Haslinger Lamb. The lanolin will be nice here in the frozen north.

Have a good weekend Gents.

One of the data points that we could extrapolate and collect here with this long running thread is how much money per shave is costing us in soap. My suspicion is that the guys burning through the soft soaps are spending more. Whats your thoughts? Anyone run some #'s?

I suspect the same thing.

So Jim, would you be an outlier?

Here's what I've got from my list, at least for the items that I can find an invoice for:

3017 List with prices paid

Soap/CreamWeightShavesCost$ per Shave
SCS Pumpkin91g18$7.00$0.39
Ralph Lauren Safari98g26$12.50$0.48
Tiki Surf's Up! Tallow104g31$14.00$0.45
D.R. Harris Lavender112g110$18.00$0.16
TFS Barbe Rosse120g30$1.75$0.06
Palmolive Shave Stick45g35$3.00$0.09
TOBS St. James Cream150g50$12.50$0.25

Don't judge the SCS Pumpkin by my usage here...it was my first SCS soap ever, and I overloaded like crazy the first ten days or so. More reasonable loading should have gotten me to 30 or so shaves.

The TOBS cream was a MyHabit purchase where you can two for $25, free shipping. Don't know if TOBS still does those, but the price is pretty good.

I bought the TFS Barbe Rosse in a 1000ml brick (about 900g) for 10.50 euros, and carved off a piece to 3017.

I always wondered this too. My last ten soaps have been a good mix of soft/hard and pricey/affordable, so I ran some numbers below.

Wow that was fast!

How are you gents accounting for days not shaved and or traveling and using a travel product?

I was simply going to discount the total days by 10% for that. Is that enough do you think?

Soft soap are definetly more costly per shave. My $12.99 RR soaps are also taxed 12%, 10% exchange and last 30-35 shaves. So I am buring through them at 40-45 cents a shave, Canadian. A lot more then a puck of $15 PdP, 10% exchange, and lasts 90+ shaves so 18-20 cents a shave, Canadian.

Being in Canada and buying from Canadian vendors has its advantages but the 12% tax is a big disadvantage. When I buy from US or UK, there is zero tax and I have never had to pay duty.

I haven't 3017 a kilo of Cella (about 900g when I weighed one) but if I was to use the same amount of product and base it on even $45 CDN delivered, that would put it at 16 cents a shave.

I will run my other 3017 products through the cost ringer when I get to a PC. PdP and Proraso Blue were quite economical for me and both were top tier performers.

I think 10% is fair If you are a daily shaver!

Jim, I use my shave log to count the shaves per soap (they're in the 3?? link in my sig), and transfer the totals to the 3017 post when I finish one (3017 link in sig), so I'm counting actual shaves.

I tend to get 25-30 shaves a month this year, since I'm not going for the 365, so I think 10% is probably spot on.
