What's new

Scariest Movies:

As a kid growing up one of my favorite TV shows was Rod Serling's Twilight Zone. Not necessarily gore or goblins, mainly a lot of thinking "outside" the box.
Rod Serling was the thinking man's horrifier. I also loved it as a kid, and ever now and then catch a rerun--some that make me very uncomfortable. The more life experience I have, the scarier some of those Twilight Zone episodes were. Very un-nerving and highly recommended.:thumbup1:

what was the classic episode with William Shatner? Terror At 20,000 ft? that one's still pretty creepy

Last night watched two. First one was "The Fly" the second one was Rob Zombies remake of "Halloween" part 2.

"The Fly" was fun to watch and I enjoyed it. Rob Zombies directors cut unrated version of Halloween 2 was not what I was expecting.

Halloween 2 is a slasher flick but Rob Zombie turned it into not only that but rewrote the storyline into an ominous supernatural demonic nightmare... At least for me. The movie IMO is far more disturbing then the original.

I don't really care for Rob Zombies music so I wasn't expecting much. As far as his movies go...He invoked fear in me and genuinely scared me. This version IMO is not for children. Even his choice of music was very good for setting the mood. ( I found that The Moody Blues song Nights on White Satin a bit unsettling....but perfect )

Yes I did have a nightmare last night...so Mr. Zombie does have a talent for at least getting to me. I am not so sure that I want a daily dose of that for a month.

I will probably search for more that you can laugh at also. It's not my desire to have a nightmare nightly for a month.

I am sure that there are many of you that have seen the movie and it didn't scare you at all...It did me so..as always...YMMV!

Not a classic horror film per se but Jaws scared the crap outta me when I was a kid. My rubber ducky had to scout out the bathtub before I went in for a few months after seeing that movie. Gotta love the theme music to it too.

The Audition (Japanese movie) was also pretty creepy for a newer movie.

Have you seen Kansen? aka Infection from 2004.

An oldie but a goody -- Wait Until Dark. When I saw this in the theater people actually stood up from their seats and screamed.

I go for suspense-scary over gory-scary.

Others:

The Shining
Psycho
Silence of the Lambs (You get gore and suspense!)
Driving Miss Daisy (for Kyle)

In no particular order:

Candyman (any of them) - scared the carp out of me, and I can't even say that word around my wife...

Salem's Lot - Something about a blue vampire...

Pet Semetary - Got this for my son a few weeks ago, 'cause he wanted a scary movie. Mission accomplished!

Cujo - Still haven't brought myself to watch this again.

Christine - Classic cars and horror, not to be missed!!

Evil Dead 2 is a halloween must.

Evil Dead 2 is a halloween must.

I plan to have a full blown horror movie marathon on Halloween since I can't take my kids out this year and this movie is definitely on the list.

I saw The Uninvited last night. It was really creepy watching the visions the girl saw. I expected nightmares last night but I think I was too tired.

Which one? Sadly, the Ray Millard classic from 1942-4 still isn't available on DVD. That and Island of Lost Souls are my two most wanted restorations/releases.

I don't get into scary movies but my wife does. We watched Paranormal Activity and it was possibly the dumbest movie I've ever seen. Especially the ending. The ending was horrible.

But, YMMV of course. :thumbup1:

OK - I will concede the ending was a bit cheesy, but the scary thing for me was the anticipation of what might happen, and the suspense.

Forgot to mention my favorite Tigon flick...

Blood on Satan's Claw

Take your basic inquisition story, set in a small town, full of god fearing, superstitious adults with everything to hide, irreverent, demon worshiping children hiding nothing, mix in the requisite ear of corn, plant tongue firmly in cheek, add screeching violins in perpetual falling half tones, hide the low budget in cramped, gothic--almost film noir--settings, adjust the flavorings with statutory rape, child pornography, witchcraft, and hideous demon deformation, and take the production seriously from there. Despite the constant fun, the raw Tigon magic & quirkiness is never lost. My biggest complaint is that the musical theme of Blood on Satan's Claw reminds me of the theme for the undead town of Scara Brae in the Ultima 7 video game, so that theme always makes me laugh. Perhaps a more serious flaw is the ending is kind of cheesy.
