What's new

You know you're a shave-geek when...

When you go to every Indian grocer within a 20 mile radius looking for cheap alum blocks and Godrej or Dettol creams, and the clerks advise you that the Indian guys like the American brands........so you put in special orders.

You buy stuff for a vacation that will pass TSA muster 6 months before the trip.

You find yourself wondering if there are going to be Movember threads on B&B months in advance.
You want to improve the lighting in your shave den so you can post pics on B&B.
You can justify spending nearly $200 on a razor because it'll last you a lifetime.
You make trips to local stores and supermarkets specifically to see if they have any new shave creams or soaps.
When your creams/soaps/aftershaves get you into buying cologne because you learn to appreciate good scents.
When you search for cologne that smells like your favorite cream/soap/aftershave.
You wonder who you will pass on your razors to (no matter what your age is).
Every time you go to the store and see mugs or bowls, you wonder if you could produce a good lather with them.
You take your razor apart after every shave because you don't want the wet blade to sit inside the razor and rust.
You justify buying shave gear you don't need because it can be your travel gear, even if you rarely, if ever, travel.

...When, instead of merely having B&B as a bookmark on your browser, you have a batch file on your desktop that'll open all relevant forums and sub-forums on your browser with a single click

...When you don't need to pack a travelling kit because it's already packed, and you don't even notice the missing stuff

...When you're gifted two of the same Italian soap and wonder if you can trade for an American one ( I just need the pictures so you'll see my post later on the BST ;-) )

...When your first trip to Italy in more than a decade (Florence) must include a tour of the local apothecaries and shave shops

...When you read through this whole thread, finally find a couple of disorders that you don't have and think, hey I'm still perfectly normal ;-)

you sneak into your fathers bathroom to check the date code on his super speed

you find any of these statements true or laugh out loud to them

when someone mentions canned goo, you cringe

you are skilled enough to shave any hair on your body

you use your thigh or arm to test lathers, blade angles, and straight razor edges

When you hit the shaving products aisle(s) in a store to see what DE products they carry.

When you spend 1-hour our more a day on this forum.

When you visit the West Coast Shaving and/or Italian Barber sites to look at blade--even though you have 23 unused blades to got through before you need to order another 100 or more.

...when you see men with stubble and think, "Must be a cartridge shaver."
...when you don't spread the word on DE shaving for fear the vintage razor market will dry up (even though you don't collect).
...when you wish you had a heavier growth so you could shave twice a day.
...when you mentally calculate how many days you have left on your current soap and/or AS.
...when you realize how easily you came up with different reasons for being a shaving geek.

When the owner of the antique shop tells you it's a very rare 1930s razor, worth at least £30, and with barely a glance at the object in question you reply that it's a 1960s Gillette Tech, millions of which were made.

...when you have 3 tabs and 12 more bookmarks of this page up or ready to go up at any time.

...any convos that you follow here you check 3 or 4 times a day for updates.

...you joined 2 different soap passarounds and plan on shaving daily (luckily I can) and test lather multiple times a day just to test for purchase.

...also wishing I could shave twice a day

...having your son "air shave," he makes the lather and shaves it off

Or when you spot an auction on eBay and message the seller to tell him
"That's not a FatBoy, its a Slim. There are no FatBoys with an H-3 date code."

When you own a completely ridiculous number of unused DE blades and still order more because, hey, they are cheaper than cartridges.

When you buy a razor just to be your "travel" razor. Even if you don't travel.

When you order a backup shaving cream of the same brand & scent cream of what you already have.

When you plan your shaving products to use the night before your shave.

When you notice antique stores and think...maybe just maybe a fatboy is there. So you stop to check it out.

When you are into "vintage" old spice shaving mugs.

When you call old old spice shaving mugs vintage.
