I soak the brush even before I start preparing for the shower. By the time I shower and start shaving, about 30 minutes have already passed. For my needs, it works perfectly and is now a habit.
 
The other day, I accidentally left my brush hanging for an hour +.

Softest my boat has been so far and performed better than ever.
 
10+ year wet shaver here. My first brushes are still my favourites: Omega 10098 and 10048, the big mean boars.

My prep is this:
  1. I keep the knot under the warm (almost hot) running tap water for about 15-20 seconds
  2. I place a nugget of shaving creme in the middle of the bristles / I load the brush straight into the bowl of the shaving soap
  3. I face lather for 2 minutes grabbing the brush like the Italian barbers do
