April 30, 2024 Tuesday shave

Razor: 1953 Gillette Super Speed
Blade: Astra Superior Platinum (1)
Soap: Noble Otter The Noir et Vanille
Brush: Yaqi 24mm Silvertip badger (3)
Bowl: Captain's Choice Heavyweight copper
Post shave: Osma alum block, Thayer's Witch Hazel
Aftershave: Fine Snake Bite

Just in time for the end of Vintage April, today's shave featured a lovely Super Speed. I haven't used a vintage razor in quite some time, and found it to be surprisingly mild and pleasant. No weepers, etc. and no irritation.

9.5/10

Enjoy your day!

I forgot to try the B plate on the Karve today and again it felt like the BIC was a bit too sharp for the C plate. Still a close and irritation free shave, it just felt a touch prickly.
It was also my final shave with this sample, I feel like it's performed better than the previous Southern Witchcraft samples I've used (slicker) and it has a very nice scent. Not quite top tier but definitely one I would buy a full tub of.

#14 in 2024 GRUYERE shave sebaticle - Still in

#31 GRUME April 2024 - Still in

Date: 04.30.24

Days growth: 8

Head and face shave

Razor: Merkur Progress

Blade: Gillette Nacet (1)

Brush: 1950’s Ever Ready R40 with original pure badger knot.

Pre-shave: Hot shower using Johnson and Johnson on face and head with facial scrubber

Lather: Proraso green cream

Passes: 2 Plus pickups WTG ATG setting 3 then 1.5

Post Shave Routine and products:

1 - Hot rinse with microfiber towel X2

2 - Cold rinse

3 - Alum block

4 - Cold rinse with microfiber towel X1

5 - Aftershave: Nivea Deep Bourbon and Vanilla

6 - Balm: Nivea sensitive skin

Notes: This was a pretty good shave today. I like that vintage Ever Ready, the knot is dense. When my beard is out of control (8 days growth) the Progress makes short work of the lengthy stubble. I don’t use Proraso green often but it’s very enjoyable when I do, I like its performance and that it’s refreshing. This is only my second Nacet blade and I like it well, sharper than the Astra SP and GSB that I normally use. I don’t know if they’re coated, it just says stainless on it so I assume not.

I had some blemish areas from my CPAP that got irritated but other than that it was a close comfortable shave.

Amazing shave this evening.

Pre: Shower and Nivea Face Wash
Razor: RazoRock GC .76-P with PAA chrome-plated brass travel handle (2-piece)
Blade: Wizamet SI (1)
Soap: Stirling Barbershop
Brush: PAA Amber Aerolite 24mm Synthetic
Bowl: Timeless
Post-Shave: Burts Bees witch hazel and aloe followed by Stirling Barbershop AS and unscented balm

Outstanding shave, 10/10. The assembled PAA travel handle is about the same weight as the RR UFO, but wider and a few mm longer, with nice and grippy barber-pole knurling. First time I tried this combination, and to me this handle is perfect with the GC head. Every time I use it, I am reminded that the GC .76 is so damn good!

I might have gone a little too far on my third use of the Variant. I climbed to a 3.5 for a first pass with a 2.5 for the second. Could also have been a bit dry when making that last pass as well. I got a bit of irritation on my neck & finished with some Nivea post shave balm. Overall, a pleasant shave with a decent finish. 7/10.
