SOTD December 10 -December 16, 2007

Prep:
Simpson PJ3 in Super Soaking in Monster Scuttle
Heirloom Linen/Canvas Strop 10 passes on Linen
Heirloom Black Latigo/Horsehide Strop 50 on the Black Latigo
After Shower:
T&H Hair Cream
Pinaud Talc
Shave:
Castle Forbes Pre-Shave
Castle Forbes Lavender Shave Cream
NOS dubl duck 6/8 Satinedge - Ivo gave me the idea of shaving with it out of the bag since it said hair tested and when I took a sweep on my forearm it made a clean sweep. So I said what hell, let me tell you this razor shaved it needs a little polish. It shaved like it came off the 8k side of a Norton. Which is more then you can say for the new Dovo's or TI's. :thumbup1:

3 passes (2 N-S; 1 S-N (neck), 1 E-W/W-E (face))

This 3 pass method worked really nicely today. I stopped trying to shave with the grain exclusively followed by 2 xtg passes at different angles. This method gave me a closer, more comfortable shave.

... with stuff that just works:

2006 B&B Brush in Finest
Merkur Progress w/ Feather
Crabtree & Evelyn Sweet Almond Oil Cream
Aqua Velva Ice Blue

BBS. After 2 hour or so, the AV scent has toned down and the SAO has come to surface again. It's pretty long lasting for such a mild mannered cream.

Frederick Reynolds "Shoulderless" (Sheffield) 5/8" straight razor

Arko shaving soap
Simpson Chubby 2 Super
Late 40's Gillette Tech (inherited from my passed away grandfather)
Feather blades
Armani Aqua Di Gio
98% Aloe Vera gel

Excellent shave!

Merkur HD w/Feather (we'll call it 2.5)
Rooney S3S1Super
Gold-Dachs SS
Provence Sante Green Tea AS

I got a really good shave out of the Gold-Dachs. I didn't care too much for the scent (too powdery), but it is quite slick and make a great, thick lather.

Joel's Woolfat Spearmint Hair and Body Soap
Kyle's Preshave Prep

HD - Swedish Gillette Day 3
Joel's Persian Limes Woolfat Shaving Soap
Simpson Duke 2 Best
4 passes, BBS
L'Occitane CADE Splash
Penhaligon's Douro

Unfortunately because of a dull blade, I ripped up my face and wanted an alcohol based splash to deal with the cuts. Otherwise there would have been no need for the splash.

Savile Row Ebony SR3318, in Finest Silver Tip, B&B group buy

AOS Shave Oil
C&E BBB
TOBS Rose Shave Cream
Merkur HD
Derby
Floris Elite ASB
I have to say, TOBS Rose Cream never ceases to amaze me. I would say it shaves as good as my C&F Lavender cream at a fraction of the cost..has to be one of the best values in cream.

Yesterday's shave with QED Sandalwood soap + C&E Sandalwood cream was so amazing I had to replicate it.

Merkur Slant w/ Derby Extra
C&E BBB
QED Sandalwood + C&E Sandalwood - Wow. This combination is incredible!
DaVinci Water
Floris Santal ASB
QED Badger & Blade cologne

A heavenly shave and heavenly scent.

I guess we need to start getting used to see only a brush, blade and this soap in more and more SOTD posts as time goes by. Soon, the lack of any A/S products, once this soap catches on, will make the SOTD posts lack the plethora of various products that used to be shown. Oh well.. I guess that's the price you pay for shaving perfection! :w00t:

....SNIP...

Jason,
I don't think that it will go to nothing else. I received my puck as a gift with instructions on it's use. As I sadly watch it wear down, I realize that one day it will be gone and baring the kindness of another bequest, I shall return to the plethora of soaps and creams that I had to be satisfied with before. Such is life. Variety must make up for deficiencies in lots of things.

Anyway, even perfection can get boring.

After bath :-

Face wash with Oliva olive oil soap

Merkur Futur - Merkur blade

C&E sweet almond oil shave cream

Shavemac custom pure badger

QED patchouli/tea tree/peppermint aftershave

Good shave, but glad to be whittling down my supply of Merkur blades - they just don't cut sharp enough for my liking
