What's new

Safety Razor Acquisition Thread.

Picked up a couple razors recently, both here on the BST and on Ebay. Finally got my tube of Maas in earlier this week, so I sat down to give them a good shine. This is what I got:

'59 Flare Tip SS (E2) - Pre-cleanup

Post- Cleanup

(More to follow - pic limit)

'68 English Tech (N2)

$20140902_155605.jpg$20140902_155637.jpg

Canadian Tech - Oval Holes
I think this most closely matches the '49 version on Mr. Razor, but not sure.

Hi guys. I just started collecting after using DE razors for a few months and falling in love with them. Here's my collection so far.
The boxed SS is a 1949, the non boxed flare tip is a 56, The Black Beauty is a 77 (had to have it as it's my birth year), the Stahey Live Blade works flawlessly and is near mint, the non boxed SS is a No Date Code razor, the Gold Ball end is a No Date Code, the travel razor is a 1968, the cased flare tip is a 56, the cased red flare tip is a 58, and the Gold Executive (I think it's an exec and not a fat boy as it has square knurling, not cross hatched knurling is also a 58.

I have a few others in the mail on their way to me. My wife thinks I'm crazy but I love these things. I've never been a collector of anything really so this is all new to me. At least she digs going to all the antique shops with me :)

Love the forum and hope to become a contributing member here.

I think this is a Gillette ball end, the case appears to be from an ABC pocket. The serial puts it at 1916. Did Gillette ever put this model in a case like that or is it just the wrong case?

Posted this in the Non-Gillette thread but let me (shamelessly) cross post it here too. Here's what arrived on the first day of this month. Had been waiting for this parcel for some time now, it got delayed in customs -

When I did a google search for Perfecta, all it gave me was SE razors. So, does anyone have any more information on this DE one?

There are no markings on the razor of any kind, but the razor certainly "seems" like it belongs to the case. One of the blade boxes is missing, but otherwise the case is in pretty good shape.

Just received a Canadian "1932" Tech 4-piece travel razor. Very nice condition.

What intrigues me is that it appears to be identical to the one shown on Krumholtz pg 270 and described as "This four piece Tech varient may be the forerunner of all Techs." Given the handbook was penned in '82, does anyone know if this been proven to be the case? Any idea on the rarity (or commonality) of this specific razor?

Very nice Tech, Rick! :thumbup1:

I have no idea how rare or common they are, but they seem to appear once in a while, less frequently than other versions of course.

Congrats!

These showed up in the mail finally. All purchased last month. The big fellow missing the blade holder but in excellent shape has been my most anticipated as I've never held one. The bulldog i have been chasing forever and finally got a decent buy but the cap is bent. Does anyone know if this can be repaired. The double ring was actually purchased last week in the wild for 20 bucks. $uploadfromtaptalk1409953476841.jpg $uploadfromtaptalk1409953206688.jpg

I've been posting in the Noobie forum but I thought it might be better to post here for this. I would like help positively identifying these two razors. Both belonged to my bride's grandfather. From what I have determined, the short handled one with the matching box is an 'Aristocrat' but I can find no date code whatsoever on it. The only thing on the underside of the razor are the Gillette logo, REG US, Pat. Off, and Made in USA. If this is, indeed, an Aristocrat, I would like to know the Year of manufacture, if possible.

The second one looks to be a Gillette 'Slim.' Also, in apparent excellent condition. I have found the code K4, on the inside of the head near the post. Comes in original case. I believe the YOM on this is the mid 1960s, if it is, indeed, a Slim.

Now, I'll have to experiement with them to determine which will be my daily driver.

Thanks for your input.
