Proraso v. Bigelow

I've got a tube of each that's been 'open' for over a year now with sporadic use at best (I use them for mixing) and there going strong with no sign of drying out.
I just throw them under the sink, no crazy OCD vacuum sealed tupperware containers or anything.
 
i take half a tube squeeze it in a plastic container left the lid off so it drys up to a puck of soap. and then use that and the scent is allways there no matter how dry it gets.
i use a few swirls of the (soap) then a dolip of the cream a few drops of glycerin and amazingness is waiting for you in the bowl...

Apologies if I am asking an old question, but what do you get with these extra steps that makes it worth it?
