What's new

Please tell me I didn't make a mistake! Flat bottom head and mystery handle?

Today was the day I hoped to get the lovely boxed flat bottomed tech I mentioned previously, but the bidding went above my budget.

So I've taken a punt on this, and I'm not sure if I've made a big mistake or whether my research has got me a good deal.

Everything about the head tells me it's an English Flat Bottom. I checked every photo I could find and everything matched up. So hopefully I have identified the head correctly.

But what about the handle? It was suggested it was a German made model like this one here, but I contacted the seller and he said it weighed in at 58g, so things didn't add up.

I then saw the '47 gold tech on Mr Razor, and the handle looks very similar (it's that ridge above the ball that stands out), but the head doesn't match.

So, I'm clueless. Have I bought a Frankenrazor? I'm not overly bothered if that is the case. I had my sites on a flat bottom (if that's what it is), so if only half of my razor is a flat bottom, I'm happy. And if I've got something entirely different, let me down gently!

Thanks. 7

Blade Biter
Could be a mix and match of parts.

The head looks fine.

Ball end Tech handles look skinny, but are actually fairly balanced. You could always get some aftermarket handles.

IMO, this is a great shaving razor, probably pushing for "the best ever", but far from a collectible. I wouldn't worry too much.

You could get a pre war fat handle tech and use its handle. The FB came with either the fat handle or a thinner handle that looks very similar but is shorter and thinner. Pre war techs are not costly and you could just swap handles. The head is a FB so it is a good razor to use with almost any handle. Nice find. I have the thin handle version and prefer to use my pre war fat handle as I find the thin handle a bit too small.

I second this suggestion. I don't use the stock fat handle anyway, I prefer one a bit thicker and heavier. Congrats on getting an EFBT! They're definitely different from the other models, efficient yet smooth.
