I keep hearing about the CeraVe. Is it almost as good? Does it leave a residue?

TBQF, not fond of paying an arm and a leg for Neutrogena.

Actually cerave is way more “refined” than Neutrogena for barrier recovery and skin nutrients.

Other than hyaluronic acid that they both share, it has 3 essential ceramides, vitamin E and niacinamide (some of them).

Take a look at the ingredients. I’m not saying neutrogena is bad in any way, but it’s a simple moisturizer. If it works and you like it, go for it.

But regarding ingredients, cerave is more nourishing.

My curiosity has been peaked enough that--after doing some online shopping--I called Neutrogena to see if the formula mentioned in the OP has been discontinued. It has.

They have replaced it with "Hydro Boost Water Cream," which is still fragrance-free.

The product specialist on the phone (who didn't seem to really know anything about the two products) claimed that the new formula offers 72 hours of hydration vs the 48 hours of the Extra-Dry version, and is thus an "upgrade."

Who knows?!

I am a fan of both CeraVe and Cetaphil products. My dermatologist recommended them both but also raved about Neutrogena Hydro Boost. She uses it herself.

For some reason this last months posts never popped up in my to read or saying new posts ! Arrgghhhhh

but yeah Costco has the new stuff on sale and I did not know the old was discontinued ahhahaha

anyway the new stuff is different will try to report back after doing some side by side as I picked up a twin pack today

its for sure different in texture does not stick to the finger the same and does not spread the same
the new stuff for sure has NO scent to my nose where the other has a very sleight neutral smell
its also more opaque in white and the jar is smaller and made of glass now
but holds the same 1.7 oz

my wife also uses it so going to have her do a side by side tomorrow and see what she thinks

did put some on my face tonight side by side and hard to say as its the end of the day not mixed with my aftershave etc...


I have had Cerave but do not like it as it never dried as dry and left a feeling on my face and hoping this does not do that
that was the issue with ALL the other face things is it never just made the skin nice and always left something that could sweat off ! Arggghhhh again maybe this wont do that ? We shall see and will do a side by side before I work out and see what I notice this week

Yup and drops/liquid that many use and love
for some of us the Neutrogena also had other things that made it amazingly smooth and just work
but good info for the thread

so todays first use on one side for me seems about the same as far as end result
but does seem different for sure getting out of jar and the texture

you hit the nail on the head. I sweat a lot. All balms I have tried - and I have tried a lot - leave an outer layer on my face that lasts for the whole day.

YUP the melting of balms or other creams is my huge issue when hiking working out riding my bike etc.. really not fun OH so hate that feeling and why I quit using the "shave balms" or other face lotions even

the dry time was basically still short when she was done with her morning prep she did not notice it behind different


like I said above for me was very close BUT putting it on later in the day without aftershave to help it thin out spread around like the way I use it I did notice it had a longer dry time on my face so maybe say 15-20 minutes where the other one just seems to rub in and blend in within minutes

Hahahaha yeah its a strange one

today again after shaving I put on old spice then the Neutrogena and it almost seems like I need less of the new stuff
stays wetter feeling for maybe twice as long not quite as quick to absorb but then its the same by the time I walk away from the sink after cleaning up

I am still thinking its the best thing going but sadly took a tiny step back for quick absorbing or is it more concentrated and I just need to adjust ?

tomorrow I am going to use even less as I might have had to much ?
