What's new

Is this the end of this pen?

A fin fell off the feed on my Sheaffer Special snorkel filler while I was flushing it today. Is this the end of this pen? Can the feed be replaced?

You'll be fine, Foyle. Remember that those early ebonite feeds are brittle.

Use it as is, a replacement could be found but unless it really bugs you I wouldn't bother.

It is molting???? Maybe a new one will grow, but it should be fine for a long time even without this fin/feather(???).

The fins act as buffer for the ink flow. Without at least a few of them, the ink would flood the feed and nib. Missing one isn't going to have a lot of effect. If they were all knocked off, it might be a problem.

Yeah, like this old Pelikan 140, it must have had a tight nib/feed assembly and was improperly handled while being removed. Works, though I probably won't take it flying.
