I would not use a machine for sharpening even for Ouddoorknives.

In the second the first spark flew away your temper is almost lost! (remember a spark is melted steel and steel is melted at about 2732 ° F)

My chinafreight sander (with a felt belt charged with cromox) puts a nice shiny convex edge on machetes, axes, mower blades, and bushhooks and does it really fast but I've never considered using it on a straight.

Well technically, the spark could just be some raw iron flying off.
