Cover Songs

I just thought of another one.
I like it, but it might not be everyone's cup of tea.

The Cardigans and Tom Jones "Burning down the house" (Talking Heads)

Anthrax was mentioned earlier. I enjoyed their cover of Joe Jackson's Got the Time, mainly because of the bass solo in the middle.

Hendrix's versions of "Like a Rolling Stone" and "All Along the Watchtower" have to be at the top of my list. 1A and 1B, pick'em.

Mike Ness cover of Don't think twice, it's alright is magnificent. I think there's some cruel pleasure in improving Bob Dylan's songs. Also, Mike's render of Hank Williams' All I can do is cry passes the test.

The Cramps' cover of Surfin bird is almost up to the original, and I've watched both bands live more than once.

The Who, Summertime Blues

The Beatles, Twist and Shout

The Pretenders, Stop Your Sobbing

The Animals, House of the Rising Sun

Led Zeppelin, Traveling Riverside Blues

Eric Clapton, I Shot the Sheriff

The Ramones, California Sun

Talking Heads, Take Me to the River

He also does a decent Long Black Veil

This one's been mentioned, but I think it deserves a listen.

This is a live version and Roland Kirk is amazing.

This isn't the version I was looking for, but Rod really put's this song where it should be.

Another great one: ZZ Top, I Thank You

And another: Bonnie Raitt, Angel From Montgomery

Here's one that not many of you have heard, either the Slayer version, or this version. The actual video capture is completely horrible but the song itself is pretty much flawless. Vader puts on an amazing set live.

While I still love the original I think Godsmack did a good cover of "Good Times Bad Times"

The Rolling Stones' version of "Just My Imagination" is one of their best Motown covers. Catch it live, if you can.

The Flying Burrito Brothers' version of "Wild Horses" is quite special. Too bad Gram became another victim of Stones-style living.

And, as others have noted, Johnny Cash's numerous covers in his last few albums are wonderful.

Another vote for the Johnny Cash version of Hurt. :thumbup1:

Not really a cover, but I cannot listen to Don McLean's song "American Pie" without singing Weird Al's "The Saga Begins" parody.

I love how everyone is just right into the jam.
They all seem so.... mellow....
gooooood times.

This is wonderful.

I'll count this as a cover, but George Harrison is playing and singing, so it's on the margin. Still, I can't let this thread go by without mentioning it.
Here Comes the Sun, Paul Simon and George Harrison on SNL in '76.
It's haunting and beautiful.
