Best pre shave oil or cream and why?

Tried a few, really think that Ethos First Lather really does the best I have used. PAA the cube is also good but I use it as a face wash not as a lather booster.

A little while ago I came across a video whose author claimed that he does not use pre-shave products, oils, creams, gels... because they stick to the brush and damage it.
What do you think, do you have such observations?
