Back in the mid 70s I was a friend's dummy for his Board Exam in LA. Got a good haircut and a very good shave. The only thing I didn't like was that I had to get rid of my mustache because he had to shave my upper lip. Once that was done it came back right away.

Throughout the 80s I got a straight razor barber shave at least twice a year. I had a regular barber at the time and he would do the whole nine yards: hot towels, stropping of the blade, etc. it was a lovely experience. Leonard finally asked if I would stop because I was his only customer who did it and he was afraid he was going to do me an injury. He didn’t say so, but reflecting back on it I’m sure the shave and a hair cut reduced the number of clients he could see in a day. It was a rather time consuming affair. Not long after that barbers everywhere stopped doing shaves because of concerns about blood born pathogens. I don’t blame them, but man I sure miss those shaves.
