Yaqi Slant 37

My Slant 37 arrived today, it appears to be very well made. I didn't realize that the colored tips were aluminum or some other light metal. I'll give it a shave soon.

By the way, I am not very experienced with slants. Any tips on shaving with this one? Go shallow? Neutral?

For me neutral to steepish angle. I prefer using a smoother blades over aggressive (Russian Gillette Platinum “Swedes” are my favorite.) It’s a nice razor but I keep finding the size and weight compared to the Razorock 37c takes away from the personality. The Razorock feels more agile and that allows the personality of how the razor cuts to stand out. The Yaqi uses weight and isn’t as engaging. Kind of like paddle shifters vs a manual transmission.

I'm using mine with a Ti Crown handle..... It's a very nice option for me... but YMMV, of course.

Think it’s just the weight of the head (I only use my Spanish UFO handles). It’s not a bad thing, but I think my justification for keeping razors is more for fun and unique vs. efficiency.

First shave with my slope will be tomorrow!

I used the 7 O'clock black for the first shave with my new Yaqi Slant 37. I used it with a Timeless Crown Ti handle, you can call me Kim if you like. ;) The stock handle appears lack grip and it is also a bit heavy. It felt better on the lighter, grippier handle.

Not knowing either the razor or the blade, I am not sure what to draw from the shave. That said, the combo felt smooth with low blade feel. I was left with a close shave, but some warmth from alcohol post-shave (which is not atypical, but I strive for as little as possible).

I am not yet sure of the angle to use, it does have a range. I was a bit surprised about how little blade feel it has, which is what I prefer. A promising first shave with the Slant 37.

To me, it has very natural shave angle very similar to my most common DE razors like the Muhle Rocca and EJ 3One6.

I haven't really noticed any burn with mine but, occasionally I get a few minor weepers.

The Brooklyn Production youtuber compared the Yaqi Slope and Slant 37, stating that they are similar in efficiency. However, the Slope is much smoother and doesn't cause irritation when shaving against the grain, unlike the Yaqi Slant 37. The Slope is believed to be inspired by the ATT S1 slant.
Recently tried the slope. I think people should look for a consensus of conclusions over a single one. I had to change my normal technique to a shallower approach with the slope but even with that I feel the 37c is smoother. The slope is a completely different beast than the ATT S1 but mine is the rare first year with the offset top cap. The ATT works better with a steep approach in comparison.

Tried my Slant 37 again yesterday, but with a heavily knurled Alpha Shaving handle.

The positive grip was better, but I picked up more weepers than usual lately. This led me to conclude the better grip enabled me to apply too much pressure to a razor I am still unfamiliar with.

The slippery handle it comes with likely caused me to go lighter on the pressure for my first shave. Not sure I want to switch back to it. Very slippery.

My third shave with the Slant 37 today. I much prefer the grippy Alpha Shaving handle.

Personna Lab Blue, and Arko. Haven't used Arko in a long time and the bit I had in a mug was in poor shape, so I went for the direct stick rub and face lather.

Really good shave.

My Yaqi Slope shows up sometime today... It's labeled as "Out for Delivery"... no scans until today... Funny how that works with USPS sometimes....

I am looking forward to comparing it with my Slant 37, which I love....
