World cup draw

Charlize was great at yesterday's draw. Although her jokes and comments sometimes seemed awkward, I enjoyed seeing the usually stolid FIFA people look uncomfortable and unsure of what to do when she said something.

And as for an American who has always followed and supported England, I'm happy with the draw. As long as we can avoid Germany in the first knockout round, I have a feeling that this will be the year we get over the hurdle of the quarter-finals.

I see the US getting out of the group but I honestly don't think they'll get very far. I highly doubt they'll win the group. The team has always lacked a cutting edge and capable strikers who always seem to falter with their finishing. There are also lots of teams competing in this World Cup that are a match for the US Team's pace and energy.

My guess is that the US has a real chance to reach the next stage here.

Algeria won't stand a chance and England might not be easy but it is one of the weaker European contenders. I mean, the only people believing in England winning the world cup since '66 come from England. Great players, no team.

So, my guess is that England will go through as 1st or 2nd and the second team from this group is either the US or Slovenia (few stars but great as a team).

Good luck U.S.!!

Although I don't think England will win the World Cup, I have to disagree with your assessment. In many previous years it's been true. The current crop of players has been a bunch of egos thrown together. But Capello has changed that. Now we are a totally different team than under Sven or McClaren. It actually is a team this time around. A team with spirit, fight, and belief.

It'll be a different England in South Africa, you can count on that.

Let us hope so; the English way to play the game is most entertaining when done properly.

So good luck to the UK too! :thumbup1:

maybe not most entertaining, it took an italian to show you how to play it properly,,mama mia.

i think barcelona and brazil or even most south american countries play the game much more beautifully entertaining than english. barcelona played so well in the champions league final it made man u look like a second division team, that's how you play soccer.

I believe you mix up club soccer with the national teams here. Italian club soccer can be very nice indeed but their national team, however with good results sometimes, is usually as boring as it gets IMO and as entertaining as watching a game of chess.

I don't think that english soccer is the best looking game but I really like their fighting spirit very much. :a15::a46:

Don't make such a statement if you haven't watched them play

Most European experts have predicted England and Algeria to come out of group C.

In 82, same was said about Algeria; we beat the defending Euro champs, West Germany

In the Euro 2006, everybody thought Netherlands would be Russia in the 1/4 finals, but the dutch got their butts handed out to them.

Anyway, good luck to everyone, it should be a great WC ! :thumbup1:

I did actually and for sure I cannot predict anything really but from all the African teams, and I sure hope they have something to show to us, I give Algeria (and S-Africa) not much of a chance.

Whish them all the luck though and hope to see some unexpected results during the championship as they are best fun to watch!! :biggrin1:

not seccaceraly,, i did mention brazil and south american countries. i used barcelona v man u as an example of how the game can be played beautifully. england have never played such a game. brazil and south american countries do often.

i do believe however that next year england have a good shot at it, their best in a long time. they gotta beat brazil, argentina and spain however.

i have a funny feeling maradona can lift argentina the team and nation to the cup. my pick is brazil to win, but watch out for the pea gun tootin paparatzi shooter.

i can't wait!
