What's new

Witch hazel post shave

illbell are you new to wet shaving? If you are or are not I have a tip that's helped me and my bad skin! #1 WH like everyone has said. # 2 drink plenty of water it helps ! #3 find a mud mask and do that like once a week I think the art of shaving as this but any mud mask will do. #4 don't rub your face with a towel after you shave just blot rubbing can move around the hair follicle under the skin and cause bumps when it starts to grow back out!

I use Thayer's. I love the weird smell that it has. Not sure what it is. Not sure if it does anything for acne though as I do occasionally have a pimple here or there.

I am new to wetshaving, but I was just talking about general acne. Im 31 years old I should be over this lol. Pretty sure it's due to stress. I'll have to give WH a try.

Thayers sounds good, I'll have to try that.

I actually purchased some with my last order from shoebox. I got the Humphrey's Maravilla citrus alcohol free but haven't tried it yet any one used it ? I have heard it is good for acne, lately I've been using my RR alum and think its great directly after a shave and also think it's helped my acne a bit. I'll try the Humphrey's out soon and report back.

Just bought the unscented with aloe vera on Amazon. My skin is a mess, hopefully this will help!

Thanks for posting this OP

EDIT: I bought the alcohol free. That's the correct one right?

I wouldn't shave without Thayer's!! My favorites are the Rose Petal and the Lavender. Both are very soothing and healing. As far as being too old for acne goes, I'm 55 and still get an occasional breakout. The witch hazel has really decreased that!!!

thayers is amazing. i use it in the morning after a shave and at night after i get out of the shower. got the rose one now, and gonna pick up the cucumber one after im done.

Witch hazel with a bit of favorite aftershave mixed in is my regimen before using unrefined natural shea butter. My old mug seems to like this combination.

I bought two bottles of Thayer's unscented with aloe over a year ago after reading one of these posts. I use it every day, gave my son a sample to try and am still on the first bottle. Good stuff.

I do the cold water rinse, Thayer's Super Hazel or Thayer's Lemon, after shave lotion or balm.

Thayers does not have a strong witch hazel smell like drug store brands. Get Thayers at natural food stores for about $10, or about $ 8 on line. Thayer's Super Hazel Medicated has a little more alcohol than most of the scented choices.

I always use witch hazel post shave. I usually mix it about 50/50 with Old Spice or Clubman. After that I use a balm.

The smell is a little weird- wet leaves in the forest, maybe a little moldy or earthy. Funny though, it really grew on me and I quite enjoy even the cheap stuff (Dickinson's). Never tried Thayers.

I used to rub an alum bar all over my face after the cold splash of water. Now, having stopped the alum, I realized how much it was drying my face. So after last pass it's cold water, blot dry, WH (leave on while I brush teeth and apply deo), then alcohol based AS and (once AS dry), a balm (currently Neutrogena post shave lotion). My skin is very very happy with this post-shave treatment (and no acne).

I actually enjoy the scent of raw witch hazel now, the generic Walgreens brand :) I want to get another scent though at some point.

Yup. My standard post shave regimen is WH followed with Nivea balm. Works fine for me minimizing any potential for irritation, but acne would not be a concern for me in any regard at this stage. Have been using generic WH from CVS, but will have to try Thayers based on the endorsements here.
