What's new

Why so many from Texas?!

I actually became interested in wetshaving from the old MS groups run by some fellow in New York. Joel and several others were members there as well.

*grumbles* all you Californians, moving into my state...with your inflated salaries/savings buyin up the good lakefront property and drivin around in your fancy SUVs. *glares*

And get your damn kids off my lawn!

*Born and raised in Austin*

Because Texas is awesome. That's why. There is no explanation needed.

It's just a coincidence. There is no conspiracy.

p.s. - I'm only from Texas because it is the popular place to be from here at B&B

If you're talking about Austin then I'll agree with you 110%. It's the best city I've ever visited!

Unfortunately, you can only enjoy it about half the year because it's hotter than hades for the other half. If only we could just move the whole city to someplace with nice weather.... like where Denver is. Just replace it. That would work.

I live in CA, but my wife is from Houston. Her opinion is that everything is bigger and better in Texas, so therefore you just naturally notice Texans. Yeah, she's not too proud of her home state. :001_rolle

Because in large parts of the state a pair Of Dress Lucchese Goatskins are
considered mandatory business attire.
Because you can go to a Hattery here in San Antonio that has my Grandfathers
measurements from 1943 and purchase and wear a nice Stetson without being regarded as a cowboy nut.
After donning it . I can walk across the street to the Menger Hotel and have a Bourbon in the same bar that T.R. recruited the Rough Riders in.
A nice European car is not regarded as the ultimate status symbol, the size of the pit in your backyard gets the oooh and aaahhs.
The fact we were a Republic and revere our ancestors that fought the Commanches ,toughest Indians to ever mount a Horse and in their spare time whipped Mexican bandits and troops along with the occasional sassy bandit.
Spartan virtues being lost are lamented, not rejoiced in.
As a youngster ,you have to take a in depth course on our history to get a public education.
We have bumper stickers that say "No ,We Dont Do it Like you did it Up There!"
Our Women are the Best looking!
Any further questions?

Oh wow, he's not kidding! If I'm ever single again down the road, I'll be heading back down to Texas. Let's just say my time there were some of the hottest (in every sense of the word) months of my life...

You know, they have indoor plumbing "Up There." Not as impressive as a pit, but a lot more convenient. :w00t:

After reading some of the replies here, I have to add Texas to my "to go" list. Maybe one summer I'll visit Cali and Texas.

LOL... I moved here five years ago from Southern Oregon for a job... My rationale then was "well, if I HAVE to live in Texas... I guess Austin is OK." I resisted it. Fast forward to now, and I like it. A lot. All of it. I've accepted being Texan.

There are no more proud people of their state, er, their REPUBLIC than Texans. And yes, they are outwardly and genuinely friendly, moreso than anywhere I've lived... unless you're on the highway. I still submit that I'd rather drive anywhere on I-5 than I-35.

There is a charm to the varied landscapes as well that you learn to appreciate. The woods and hills up around Tyler, the wide open haunted spaces out past Fort Stockton, The Hill Country, the variety here is amazing. Well, all of it except the gulf. I don't care much for the gulf, but I'm biased. I was raised spending my summer months in the redwoods outside of Santa Cruz. Was accepted as a semi local at Steamers'... and still have a love for the swells on the big ocean.

So it could be due to population, Chas, Mantic, a love for the old ways, or just because...

One thing, though. Football. I've never seen such rabidness, and at first equated it to being a true sickness... but have also embraced it. I still wear my Oregon Beavers ballcap, but have also accepted the 'Horns. (Sure, everyone loves a winner... :) ) Partially because Colt and Jordan go to Church with us. Talk about real Texans. Those young men are straight up good Texas kids off of the gridiron and personal role models for my teens - and have had something to do with me accepting this place.

Many on IH 35 are just passin' through.

I lived in Boulder Creek 1974,75,76, just outside Big Basin Park on 236. Biggest dang trees ever! In '73 they still had hitching posts on the main street. One day someone robbed the bank and made their getaway past my house. Town cop was close behind -- he stopped to use our phone to call for backup! (They were shooting at him from the back of their pickup.)

Been here 13 years and still am not a football fan. (Don't tell anyone!) Where I came from, high school football was lucky if it made the last page of the sports section. Pictures? hardly! Here local TV stations have video. Round Rock school district built a $20 million stadium. I had to pay off the bonds with my property tax, until I moved a bit further out. But you know all that, being from the same place!

Boulder Creek is awesome. My family has had (still has) a place outside of Felton since the '20s. We could walk down to Roaring Camp/Big Trees... I used to fish the reservoir up by Boulder Creek. :) And yeah, one thing that's NOT bigger in Texas is the redwoods.

The Palace is truly a testament to the crazy fanaticism of local high School football. Went to a few games there this year. Yeah, the taxes stink. We privately educate our kids in a suburban setting... :001_cool: so I get zero benefit from my taxes.

Everyone seems to be missing the obvious. Do you really want to have a beard in this heat? It might look alright in the movies be the reality is that it is just too dang hot.

First post and another Texas Native here! Received a Merkur Heavy Duty from my fiancee over Christmas and am not looking back....good to be here!
