What's new

What's your top 3 razors?

Well, I don't yet own a traditional str8 razor (but do want to try them out!). Today I only own 3x str8 razors, all part of the "Feather system", as I like to call them (CJB, SS, and DX):

But the question was about the "top" ones, and for me, the one I like the most using right now is the DX:

Top 3 for now would have to be my BB, the one I have put aside for my son, and my MK32. A close 4th is my Henkotsu size 3.

Good Heavens! You pose that question and I'm just flummoxed. I stand here looking at my collection and all I see is a razor jamb. Sophie's choice.
I just keep muttering " Yeah,, but,, yeah,,but". This is hurting my head.

I would probably have a better chance if I only had three razors and then I might do better picking my favorite three.

It's an impossible question, but a great conversation. Every time it's asked, I pick whatever 3 (or 4) are on my mind at that moment. The more you think, the less you can answer.

In your case Mark, you couldn't pick your favorite 200, lol (and neither could I with your collection).

$DSC_0121.jpg
Joseph Rodgers full hollow 6/8
Bengal 6/8 full hollow
Mk 31
Top 2 were my grandfather's and the MK31 I got for NZD$20 last time I was home.
@Kentos good to see your feet in the photos again

That's exactly what I had in mind with this thread, one side of it is that I love razorporn, another side is that it is interesting to see how this change over time.

Maybe we should repeat in 2-3 months and see what comes up then :001_smile

Although I don't have near as many razors as you do, I can relate. LOL

Makes my head hurt trying to decide about number two and three, so I'll just post one and say whatever I happen to be using any other time will be in the top three.

Yeah,, with that one you don't need a 2 or 3.Just said in another post how much I like my Greaves wedge type blade. Seems there are quite a few Masonic blades around. I just got a beauty in to restore.

The Masonic blades seem to be coming out of the woodworks lately. LOL Mine and I both know the secret handshake. ;)

Looking forward to seeing the magic you work with your restore.

And YES, those GREAVES razors are some sweet shavers. As a friend of mine says, "they have souls like a Vincent '52" (after the song

“1952 Vincent Black Lightning,” By Richard Thompson.)

.

But then again, my Joseph Rodgers, Freddy R's and W&B's are great shavers too. :)

My collection is a bit more modest than others here, but I'm ok with that, for now.

Top three:

MK31 in Ivory. I love the balance of the blade.

Keen Kutter 5/8 hollow. It feels almost as good as the MK31. It balances really well, and takes a rediculous edge when put on by a mojo master.

W&B Bow, 6/8 1/2 hollow, for the "heavy beard" days.

It's a crappy phone pic, but I'm on the road.

I recognize most of those, even the scales peeking out of the third one. LOL

Is that a converted cigar box? I can't make out what it says on the lid. One way, or the other, it gives me a nice idea...

Bil

It sure is, it's a Montecristo Robusta (Cuban I think) box I shellaced and used seating foam to keep them safe.
I can get the boxes for buttons here in Dublin with the money going to charity.
